My China And Why You'll Never Get To Go There!

I'm half Chinese, but I mostly grew up in England.

After going to an international school, I learnt that a lot of people's conceptions about China, including the people who live there, don't know the China that I know at all.

Shanghai - shopping paradise

Most cities are far from the China I know.

Beautiful white sand beaches

Local markets of every single food you can imagine

Donating food to local buddhist temples, who usually are homes for orphans too

This - basically everywhere

Burning fake money as a memorial of our ancestors deaths - and to let them go shopping in the after life!

Fooooooood but not the kind you imagine. No one from my family would be caught dead eating noodles or sweet and sour curry - that's like KFC to us.

I quite like it, I find it a mix of modern Chinese and Mediterranean.

Traditional clothes for girls. I can't seem to find any photos of this at all. Just imagine really long dark hair and then floor length silk or cotton dresses, and then a big straw hat. It may sound strange, but trust my it actually looks very elegant and simple. Kind of like this, but usually it's completely white, and looks a bit more lightweight and flowy than this, this looks very wintry. Most girls will wear it with big clunky black boots, the land is usually way too hard for those tiny slippers.

and then for men:

I think most guys wear white trousers though, black is too hot. For a lot of festivals and parties, we have, girls wear things like this

We have a lot of parties like this, everyone knows a specific step, and we all dance around the fire.

Finally - sugarcane! You buy a stick very cheap and then just chew on it. It's quite fun, lastes a long time and tastes really good.

Now for the sad part, unfortunately, from the nature of the country and the difficulties it faces form the government and vast differences between people, it's impossible for anyone to visit unless you're part of community. These places are impossible to get to, there's a huge language barrier, plus, most of the people there are going to try get as much money out of you as possible.

City dwellers in China go to rural areas and act like they're aliens and treat them as if they are inferior. Because of this, and their lack of manners, they don't get along.

Having spent literally months from Beihai to Shenzhen, wuhan, qingdao, Suzhou areas and the rural spaces... China is not really like this.

Yes, noodles are actually a thing in both rural and metro China. (people eat at kfc too).

Most of the Buddhist temples were wiped out in the cultural revolution. So you actually find more in Hong Kong than you do in any region in mainland

Local markets are indeed fun but a bit on the challenging side as their food card is not to western standards just like most of the restaurants.

I enjoy China and the people but it’s not as you make it seem.

I've been to Taiwan, which is technically part of China. And there are no travel restrictions. So I guess that's the closest people can get at least culturally.

And I didn't realize they burned fake money. I always thought it was real money.

Long Flowy dresses and chunky shoes- that’s most of my wardrobe ! Lol people always think it’s odd not bad but odd.. i don’t mind I’m used to it but I like knowing people appreciate it culturally, somewhere.

Well I was born in China but left very early maybe it stayed dormant in my memory 😂

I always thought China was heavily polluted due to manufacturing, I suppose there is the good and bad to everything. It would be nice to see China implement laws against toxic subsistences being used in factories and things alike.

Being Canadian though, I'll likely never go to China in my life though, it's quite a shame too because I absolutely love to travel. Now that you mentioned it Singapore would be quite nice to.

Visited Sichuan two years ago.

It was amazing. Friendly people, beautiful landscape, food that wasn't junk, fascinating culture.

China is fantastic, and the people are so hospitable.
