Is it possible to get your ticket (not the print out paper, I mean ticket ticket) at airport right before your flight without your passport?

ok so my friend told me his cousin couldn’t travel from South America to Europe because they told him at the airport that his passport (he still got 1.5 years before it can be expired ) is not the new biometric system one that he can’t travel even if he could he’d get in trouble once he arrives to his destination in Europe.. so he needs a renewal but he still got the ticket handed to him. It sounded a bit absurd to me because how could he got the plane ticket ( and by ticket I don’t mean the printed out paper ones you can print out at your home.. I mean the ticket they give you after they check your passport and you can show it before you hop on inside the plane) if his passport is not acceptable? It just didn’t add up for me, if any of you can let me know if you know? Thanks x

That's stupid. Me and my mom both renewed ours at the same time and she got the old version and I got the new biometric one. They can't force him to get a new one if his is still good for a year. I'm saying a year, because the last 6 months are practically useless. But I haven't heard of any country denying you entry for not having a biometric passport. Even in the US, you can could still use a non-biometric passport in place of a Real ID.

I think the ticket lady just asks for your passport as a form of ID. Because I was able to print my boarding pass before using just the confirmation number.

You have two options. The first is a dual badge that functions as both a driver's license and a passport. The second option is a traditional passport. These are your only two options to obtain that airline ticket at the airport right before the flight leaves.
