What do you think of Raccoons?

Something that surprised me after I moved from the US to Australia is how many people here say "oh I love Raccoons". And I'm like "WTF? Why?''. They're considered a BIG nuisance in the US; we call them trash pandas because they raid your garbage cans and make a huge mess.

There basically like possums except they're the size of a Koala and are as smart as a cockatoo. Although I did a little more digging and apparently Tiktoks of their antics gave them a big fan-base down under.

I think raccoons are so cute. I suppose they’re more of a nuisance out in rural areas. One time, I went camping and there was a very friendly raccoon playing by the campsite. He kept wanting some of the marshmallows that we were toasting over the fire. Cute little fellow.
I know they make “bandit-proof” trash cans with latches.

Considered a nuisance here in several cities, with licensed hunters tasked to shoot them.

They are giant pests but cute to look out.

They’re very cute when they’re not being a nuisance. Same with many other animals like rats.
