1 yLOL, I've traveled in a nylon web and aluminum frame jumpseat on military aircraft with no sound insulation. I've traveled in military helicopters with the doors open. I've traveled on commercial aircraft in coach, business, and first class. And I've traveled on private jets and twin engine turboprop aircraft.
Business class and first class are really nice on long haul flights. Especially flights over water that can be 10 hours or more. You can actually stretch out and sleep. The food is actually very good. And you get more attention from the flight attendants, less waiting.
But on short haul flights, say 3 hours or less, I really don't care about being in first class.
Flying private is great too. Mainly because it's easier getting to and from a private aircraft than going through TSA at a major airport. But some private aircraft can also travel a LOT faster than a commercial airliner, knocking some decent time off a long flight. Say 650 mph vs 550 mph for a commercial long haul aircraft. That's almost 20% faster or 2 hours off a 10 hour flight. It's significant. Also, smaller private aircraft can often access facilities that a Boeing or Airbus aircraft can't use. So you end up landing closer to your ultimate destination and cut drive time on the ground too. Plus, no crying babies, assholes trying to steal seats, or jerks trying to carry on their life's belongings.

Anonymous(30-35)1 yLol yes. I was studying abroad at 'B' and had to come back to 'A' as not to lose residency there.
So my father couldn't find any tickets but 1st class.. reserved them.
Was on Qatar airways.
You have a full-option seat, can extend lower part for your legs. Have a radius of 1m empty around you. Food quality was just super. So relaxing indeed. I think lighting was also dimmer if not mistaken. That was back at 2014 I guess.
I was looking for remote control, so asked a stewardess. She took it out from edge of seat with 'Ta-da!'..😅
I certainly wasn't looking for that, and felt quite disgusted. It also was the team leader or head whatever called.
As I was there, I saw a man asking a stewardess to come. As she approached him, he started like blaming her for what he got for food or so.
She went down half-kneeling apologizing. She seemed a little seasoned not an amatuer and middle-aged. Mid 30s I guess.
Another eww there.
That's what I remember so far.10 Reply
Not *in* the first class, but in the row right after that. It didn't seem much different. For less than 1/2 the price they paid I had proper leg room (without anyone in front of me) and just being kind to the flight crew I ended up getting a few drinks on them. I also had the isle seat I'd requested. The one issue was the tall hunk next to me kept falling asleep on me turning onto me to cuddle. (Poor me.) The crew and I chuckled about it a few times and tried to get the guy to lean against the window instead, but he probably is used to sleeping on his left side bc it kept happening.

1 yI always travel First Class which usually only has two seats instead of three. You also get more foot room. If you get your tickets early you can get your choice of seats. I always try and get the first row so I'm off the plane first. It is also close to the bathroom. It may cost you a bit more, like $90, but the room and not getting stuck in the middle is worth it.

1.9K opinions shared on Travel topic. I did once. I was flying out of Tampa Florida and I do not remember why but I was bumped up to first class. A few hours earlier I got a bad meal at a restaurant and I had food poisoning. I was really sick the whole time and don't really remember much about it.

1 ySeveral times.
There are really two kinds of first class experiences:
The first is short-haul domestic style first class. In this, you get somewhat better (and more) food and snacks, (more or less) unlimited booze, and a fairly comfortable recliner chair. It's less of a 'luxury' experience and more of an 'avoid being jammed in like sardines' experience. The second is more of a long haul, lie-flat / international style first class. These ones are pretty sick. You get this electronically adjustable chair that can basically turn into a little bed that tucks under the seat in front of you -- or, more specifically, their side table.
These can be quite a bit more luxurious. You might get multiple air vents from different angles, instead of just one. Several reading lights. Lots of storage space. Often meal times are more flexible in these kinds of flights. The big relief in both cases, though, is having a bit more quiet and space. That's why I'm sometimes willing to pay for it, anyway -- I'm 6'3", and a bit of an introvert. Flying in economy is pretty miserable for me. Getting a seat where I'm not automatically touching my neighbor on or under our shared arm rest, where I can stretch out a bit, and where I might even be able to catch a wink of sleep is an enormous comfort.

1 yNo and I'd personally never spend my money on a first class flight. It's just a waste of money unless you're a millionaire that makes more money passively than the the cost of the flight during the duration of the flight.
Otherwise there's nothing that can justify me paying 3-5 times and sometimes even up to 10 times more than the cost of an economy seat. I could go on a whole other vacation with the price of riding a few hours in first class.
People who do that I find are distastefully bougie (sorry @TheRealPepperPotts ).10 Reply- 836 opinions shared on Travel topic.
1 yI missed a connection flight due to air traffic issues - and the replacement seat happened to be in 1st class.
So I arrived - privileged - some 10 meters earlier than most others on that flight.
There was a little more leg room than usual, but otherwise the ''experience'' had not been different from other flight ''classes''.
You sit around and wait that you finally can get out.
Only one other perceived ''first class'' flight happened to me during my military service (of which I am otherwise not proud about due to changes in my political views) - when I was allowed to sit in the cockpit for take-off (in some kind of guest-seat).
It was a transporter - not a fighter jet. But-hey- we can't have all, do we :)
10 Reply I did one time on a flight from London to Hong Kong and it was a total surprise. It didn't happen till I was stepping on the aircraft and the flight attendant stopped me took my ticket and tore it in half then handed me a replacement and pointed me upstairs to the reclining seats and loads of leg room, big TV AND the most surprising thing was as I was settling in the "Butler"/flight attendant asked me by name whether I would like a glass of champagne, to which the only response was "Absolutely and don't stop it coming sir" lol
Another time I was upgraded was actually with my girlfriend/now wife where we were flying long haul and I was offered a space in business class while she was kept in the cheap seats. I offered to swap but she was adamant it was my fair skin and hair that got me bumped up (BUT there was a family with toddlers all around me and that was a wee bit disconcerting for rest and sleep.10 Reply- 1.9K opinions shared on Travel topic.
1 yYeah. I won't get into how I ended up there, but I didn't like it honestly. It wasn't THAT comfortable and I've always believed that people should be treated equally regardless of their background, and I thought it was so unfair that they were giving me extra food and priority service/treatment.
I'd only do it again for the legroom and seats that turn into beds, but as far as food and service goes, I don't appreciate getting special treatment. The other passengers who paid for normal seats deserve chocolate just as much as me.
Maybe if I was rich, it wouldn't bother me

m 1 yA few flights in first class to, from and in Asia. I only booked them because I got them at 20-25% of the regular price. The markup from coach to business is often worth it, the markup from business to first is hardly worth it, unless you get a mad discount.
20 Reply Usually, yes. It's just comfier seats and service.
But to be honest, unless it's a short-mid flight, it's a pointless expense as you're just going to sleep regardless
The exception being the luxury flights which have a bed instead of a seat.

1 yI've been in all classes of service except "suites" for long distance flights. Everything depends on the airline and the length of flight. Years ago it was FAR better than now because airlines have devalued both business and first class by giving away miles for everything, then jumping mileage requirements for redemption. For many airlines, it's absolutely NOT worth the upgrade.

1 yDomestic first class flights are a waste of money.
International Business class is where it's at. Delta has some really good seats and the airport lounges are quite nice. They offer a lot of areas to lay down during extended layovers along with free buffet style snacks and sandwiches.

Anonymous(30-35)1 yI did once, but I didn't pay for it. It was a work trip and I was flying back from the east coast to the west coast. I don't remember why, but they just upgraded me for free. It was really nice, mostly because I'm 6'3" and I can never get comfortable in regular seats. First class was pretty comfy.

2nd class on a train once
But there’s a first time for everything one of these days20 ReplyA few times when the airline offered a deal on it during online check-in the day before. It is very nice to have the extra space and service.
