Ryanair Incdent- Please Don't Chase a Jet

Wtf when I saw this, PLEASE DONT CHASE A JET.

Not as if many of us will ever get this opportunity, but as an aviator the way a turbine engine works is easily explain as- SUCK, BANG, BLOW.

When a commercial airliner is parked at a gate there are there are big clear yellow lines for bag handlers to observe as no-go zones for when the engines are on. Unfortunately an employee once stepped half of his foot over the line and was sucked off his feet and shredded by the engine.

The suck zone is much longer than one would think. Never ever approach a turbo, even experienced employees who deal with these planes for decades can potentially be at risk and they know that.

I'm an aircraft mechanic and have known of these accidents. I was also in the Navy and the flight deck is one of the most dangerous places on earth. I've witnessed one that was blown overboard. He didn't survive. I've personally been blown off my feet. There have also been instances of becoming hypnotized by looking at propellers and walking right into them like on the E-2C Hawkeye aircraft.

Oh my goodness... in the beginning of my career I used to be working for the long-gone Belgian Airline City Bird.
We all knew that once the loading was complete and the aircraft was waiting to push, all of us needed to be at a safe distance.
Have you even seen this video, a guy being sucked into the engine intake of an A-6 on an aircraft carrier :o
Believe it or not: it has a happy end! The pilot noticed what happened and throttled back. The guy got stuck in the intake but was pulled out by his collegues. He walked away with minor injuries :D

Yes I've heard stories of people getting sucked into smaller turbines and surviving. The turbine on a 777 is the same diameter as the fuselage of a 737 (the 3/3 passenger seating configuration). Those planes scare me. I had to take the stairs off of one one time at an army base and I would go down the stairs until the pilots were out of the flight deck and came with me. Silly I know but when I got down I just stared at the thing. Amazing.

You don't appreciate how big these aircrafts are when you are onboard them.

I'm not certain but I'm fairly confident that if you start walking down that stair and they would start the engine, not much would happen. They would have to throttle up for it to suck things up.
Moreover, they wouldn't start up with the stair still there... I've never known a jet to start up before everything except a push-back truck if required, had been removed to a safe distance :D
Also, always watch for the rotating beacon lights. They mean: I'm about to start. From Piper Cub to A380!
