It doesn't bother me. But i'm white so... I will say this i think this world is entirely too sensitive anymore. And when i say that what i mean is i don't think most people are outraged by things as much as they just want argue and create controversy where there is none.
Its the age of people getting offended over nothing. That said, twitch is a business and they know if all their triggered little heathens get mad and start watching fortnite streamers somewhere else, then thats not nothing when it comes to their wallets. Freedom of expression doesn't entitle anyone to use a businesses platform while doing it. Sucks but thats the only fair way to do it.
@Nadim171 Yes they would, but funny how you don't see black people doing that yet you see white people doing so. Blackface is racist, if she wanted to dress up as that character she didn't have to go paint her face.
Blackface is racist if it's done to make fun of black people, but if it's just to play the role of a black person it's not. Back at school we once painted our faces black to play the role of Africans in a play since we're all light skinned
I read that, but you see? Back then it was to Male fun of blacks. As for Halloween costumes it's just because for example, I want to dress as a black slave in Halloween, yet i am not black, so I need blackface. If a black wants to dress as George Washington for Halloween he will do white face yet I will be the one being attacked
I remember that my mom told me my grandpa used to work in the making of an old movie and all the actors weren't black and they needed slaves so they used shoe polishing black on their faces to look like slaves.
@Nadim171 Okay, first on all, who in their right mind would dress up as a slave, what the hell. You can dress up as a black character without doing blackface. You don't have to do blackface or whiteface to do some cosplay. It's racist. That's why people are mad, not because of the character she chose but because she did blackface, which is the issue.
Yeah, dressing up as a slave, even more having black face painted? that is a definite NO lol. Imagine dressing up as an Isis member on Halloween? yeah good luck with that one, i hope you survive.
If someone does whiteface I wouldn't be offended. I dont know why blacks always get More privellages. People dress like Asians and do makeup to look like Asians, arabs, Europeans, indiasn yet if you do that to blacks it's RaCiSt
I worked at a grocery store for a year and I had employees of many different races.
White people were more sensitive about talking about race. Whereas the black peoples would bring up race every change they got! In fact they’d even stereotype themselves!
All my black co-workers had Fanta and hot Cheetos at lunch 😂 like I’m not even joking! I’m not one to stereotype people. But they were doing it to themselves!
But that’s besides the point. I’m not trying to say that black peoples self-stereotyping behavior justifies people acting “racist”.
I’m saying that people are unfair about racism. Because what counts as racism nowadays, makes EVERYONE racist!!
I think racism should be described as a person verbally or physically threatening, targeting, or assaulting a person or group of people for their race.
I mean kkk members not girls wearing black face on the internet.
@Nadim171 lmao fr! It’s white liberals that call everyone racist all the time! When I hand out with people who are t white (especially men) they make racist jokes towards each other all the time! I don’t find it racist to joke about race. The best way to get past something is to joke about it.
But it is racially offensive, even if her intent wasn't bad. The history surrounding blackface is really ugly and there is a reason that sensitivities surrounding it are so high.
On twitch, as a girl streamer you can get away with murder as long as you don't displease the minorities. You can even show your vag. The worst you'll get is a 3 day suspension. You can also sell your underwear, your bath water, and watch porn on stream. But don't you dare darken your skin tone filthy white person.
for everyone saying that skin tone isn't a costume, would you dress up as the incredible hulk and not paint yourself green? or mystique not blue? the skin is definitely going to make the costume make sense.
HAHA IM NOT EVEN SURPRISED ANYMORE LOL TOO MANY OVERLYSENSITIVE PEOPLE NOWADAYS SMH WEAK AS FUCK, SHE DOESN’T EVEN DO THE BLACK FACE LOL SHE WAS C O S P L A Y I N G
Not sure. Does she really look like the character?
People in certain regions of the world don't think about how this comes off. Not an out but just a fact. But once they are aware then they need to stop.
Those examples are not on the same level as the picture in the question. Besides Ariana Grande is part italian so she is naturally olive toned. Not a person painting themselves "dark brown" for cosplay.
@Nayrr She purposely makes the black character uglier then the white character. She could have stylized herself in an attractive way by using a different shade of orange or a more uniform shade of black. She could have used a different poise and photographed her face at a different angle to make the dark skinned person beautiful and not an ugly version of the white one.
She looks spot on, I don't see the issue here. I don't know why this would make Africans look bad, Lifeline is a fictional character coming from the planet Psamathe. Kind of racist to assume she's African because of her skin color.
I just want to say sw? Is pretending to think i’m Racist because he is so full of hatred inside he tries to take it out on others. There is a guy from my high school whose made over 400 fake accounts on this site to stalk me and this guy is only level 3.
Why can't people cosplay as someone who has dark skin? Whats racist about that? There is no racist meaning behind this, why are people so against this? Just because she is white she can't dress a certain way, isn't that racist to state?
Not only was it not done with malicious intent, but she is not from a culture that would identify this as offensive. In America, blackface has a negative history, but not where she's from.
The bad thing with blackface was, that these actors portraied black people as idiots.
I dont understand, why blackfacing is considered bad, when you dont do that and instead portrait the character with honor and dignity. Makes no sense...
For the people disliking and saying it's for cos play etc. You can still dress up as that character without painting your face. I think its ignorant how she did this. Look up the history blackface people!
@Adam_INTJ The history of black face is still relevant especially in the U. S. Wrong is wrong she should not of done blackface. Whether its cosplay or not. If it was a black person doing white face for cos play or whatever they would be under scrutiny cause white people would feel that they are being made fun of. It's the truth🤷🏽♀️
@Adam_INTJ Okay just because I give an opinion does not mean I'm god. I'm an expert in logic I'll a philosophy minor and will be attending law school next year. Ethically it's wrong. Morally ( depending on how the person was raised this could vary) but in my opinion it's wrong. And who are you to say that my opinion doesn't matter? But yours matter?
@_Jay_ Do your research Michael Jackson had vitiligo. When Michael Jackson died the doctor examined him and confirmed he had vitiligo which is a skin condition that make skin turn white. Just because I give an opinion does not mean I'm bitchy an opinion is an opinion.
@brebre234 if you're a philosophy minor you should know that morality, if subjective/determined by opinion, cannot logically be enforced on other people as they can have their own subjective view. Yet also, you should know that morality is not objective, as demonstrated by David Hume's Fact-Value dichotomy.
The end result is that you can come to a conclusion that while blackface is morally wrong TO YOU, and some others, you have no place enforcing that over someone else's subjective view of blackface.
You do not hold this position, so it tells me that you are either lacking in your ability to use logic, or that you lack background with philosophy
@Adam_INTJ But my opinion holds the position and opinion is an opinion and I'm just expressing why I feel that way. Which I have a right to. I'm not lacking in anything boo-boo because it seems like you are the one affected by my opinion. You were the first to comment under my opinion and saying history is irrelevant. All I did was responded back to it and expressed why I disagreed.🤷🏽♀️🙄
I mean black people mostly sold their own families to be slaves so I think that's why making jokes about black people is still funny. That's why black face was funny to those people. But now its not. It's not even black face. As it is not ridiculing black people.
@brebre234 then "she should have been banned. No reason to blackface" shouldn't have been in your comment as the former Is a claim of moral absolutism while the latter is a claim a fact--both false.
@InTimoreDei Oh so since because I'm black you assuming I didn't study the topic in school? You're mighty narrow minded. To me it seem like he didn't study anything.
Most of us are assuming you didn't study the topic because you clearly didn't understand it. Idc if you're black but if you're stupid then I don't know mate. Sounds pretty shitty to me.
@_Jay_ No I do understand it. he's the one whose stupid because I have a right to my fucking opinion. he's the one who came under my comment first and disagreed and all I did is respond. Then he had a nerve to basically tell me how I have no right to an opinion. To me blackface is wrong and I'm just expressing my opinion why it's wrong. 2. I'm not stupid because apparently I'm at the top of my class rn and will be attending one of the top law schools next year. So 🤷🏽♀️
@brebre234 Ummm... where did I say anything about race? I didn't even know you're black. Don't bring up race when it wasn't even part of the discussion.
@InTimoreDei um race is involved in the discussion this. Plus your reason is flawed just because someone mentioned one book about philosophy does not mean they are an so call expert in philosophy and the studied it just from reading "a book" anyway imma end this discussion here cause I got better shit to do than sit here and argue with people who are very narrow-minded. Have a nice day.
@brebre234 trouble is, you're contradicting yourself in magnificent fashion in regard to the right to an opinion.
You're asserting that you should be able to hold your opinion, though not rooted in any logic, while this cosplayer is not entitled to her opinion on blackface, and instead should have your opinion forced on her via banning her.
By that logic, you should be able to "have your opinion" as I ban you from G@G for disagreeing with my opinion.
@brebre334 your arrogance is truly offputting. You are raising yourself as an "expert" based on nothing more than a minor.
That's committing both the personal incredulity and the appeal to authority fallacies at once.
You'll learn in law school that an expert without facts or data does not constitute a good argument and that your personal experience in a topic does not form a valid point either.
Your expertise in a topic should only serve as a background skill that assist you to navigate to facts, find relevant data, and guide your audience to your conclusion.

It is up to you to either point out why my facts do not lead to the conclusion which I have proposed, or to present other facts and deductive arguments which oppose my argument.
@Porcelaine Yeah, she might not have known the history, but other people have also caught hell for wearing blackface. She had to know it was a sensitivity even if she didn't know why.

I think they should’ve given her a warning. And like a punishment I guess but banning is too extreme
Why a punishment? She was just dressing as her favourite character not making fun of blacks
I mean. It is racist.
It is not. I assume no one would have said the same if a black girl did white face

Yeah, dressing up as a slave, even more having black face painted? that is a definite NO lol. Imagine dressing up as an Isis member on Halloween? yeah good luck with that one, i hope you survive.
i am Arab (Christian) so an ISIS member might fit well if I have a beard.
If someone does whiteface I wouldn't be offended. I dont know why blacks always get More privellages. People dress like Asians and do makeup to look like Asians, arabs, Europeans, indiasn yet if you do that to blacks it's RaCiSt
@Nadim171 wow, so you're just an idiot really.
An idiot? I thought I was a racist? Come on call me racist I still didn't break the 100 times called racist score I was planning to break.
i am Arab (Christian) so an ISIS member might fit well if I have a beard? nani? Now you're just trolling
I dressed as a Muslim once, just for fun lol
@Nadim171 Yeah muslim, but i'm talking about an ISIS member.
@YvanKarma , right? what an idiot.
When you get to read the Quran you will know they're the same anyways...
I worked at a grocery store for a year and I had employees of many different races.

@BrookieCookie0422 exactly, blacks don't really care and don't get offended that easy but it's just whites thinking everything is offensive
@Nadim171 lmao fr! It’s white liberals that call everyone racist all the time! When I hand out with people who are t white (especially men) they make racist jokes towards each other all the time! I don’t find it racist to joke about race. The best way to get past something is to joke about it.
They look like two different people.
I don't think there should be a ban. There's nothing racial or insensitive about it she's just dressing up as a character from a game.
Besides if a black person wants to dress up as a clown can we say they are doing white face?
But it is racially offensive, even if her intent wasn't bad. The history surrounding blackface is really ugly and there is a reason that sensitivities surrounding it are so high.
@Reach500 She's from Lithuania. There's no history of BlackFace there.

No, that's a HOMAGE to Lifeline.
"Big tings' in dat"
I often feel like, that anything a white person does will be taken out of context, just to push forward an agenda.
I think we should ban Tyler the Creator for wearing a white face, it's only fair, right?
Not sure. Does she really look like the character?
People in certain regions of the world don't think about how this comes off. Not an out but just a fact. But once they are aware then they need to stop.
Seems silly. What's next banning really tanned white women?
Skin tone isn't a costume. Do your research.
@ultimega yes and it looks like she got a really dark fake tan.
Don't think so, dear.
@ultimega well I do. I've seen many get that done. Adrianna Grande is a good example.

Those examples are not on the same level as the picture in the question. Besides Ariana Grande is part italian so she is naturally olive toned. Not a person painting themselves "dark brown" for cosplay.
@ultimega actually didn't she go too dark once, she has very light skin for an Italian.
https://images.app.goo.gl/DvNbN4hp8NUBHuqB7
I agree with the ban - it looks like she is trying to make Africans look bad.
How lmfao. It's a character
Uhm no she isn't. but okay
How is cosplaying making someone look bad?
To add context, she is cosplaying as lifeline, a character from the game Apex, she is not trying to dress up as a slutty African nurse.
She literally does that pose in game lol.
And who's the white character lol?
Context:
She looks spot on, I don't see the issue here. I don't know why this would make Africans look bad, Lifeline is a fictional character coming from the planet Psamathe. Kind of racist to assume she's African because of her skin color.
I just want to say sw? Is pretending to think i’m Racist because he is so full of hatred inside he tries to take it out on others. There is a guy from my high school whose made over 400 fake accounts on this site to stalk me and this guy is only level 3.
Well that guy needs help, he has obviously mental issues
No, she was only trying to look the part of the character, which I thought she did rather well.
However it seems just about everything is considered "racist" these days...
Why can't people cosplay as someone who has dark skin? Whats racist about that? There is no racist meaning behind this, why are people so against this? Just because she is white she can't dress a certain way, isn't that racist to state?

For the people disliking and saying it's for cos play etc. You can still dress up as that character without painting your face. I think its ignorant how she did this. Look up the history blackface people!
She's from Lithuania. There's no history of BlackFace there.
The history is irrelevant. If it was, then that standard ought to be applied to the racist history of the democratic party, which no one does.
Except they wouldn't face any scrutiny or punishment because if they did that would be called racist too
I mean you can paint yourself white. Noone cares. Michael Jackson did that and everybody loves him. So really its you being self conscious and bitchy.
@brebre234 it's not wrong just because you say it's wrong. Who made you God? Your opinion on it doesn't matter. Use logic.
If the history is relevant I hope you'll join me in opposition to the democratic party as a relic of a bygone racist era.
@Adam_INTJ Okay just because I give an opinion does not mean I'm god. I'm an expert in logic I'll a philosophy minor and will be attending law school next year. Ethically it's wrong. I love when people defend their position because they "studied the topic in school".

It's disrespectful. Things like that are taboo for a reason. Given the ugliness of the history surrounding blackface, she should have known better.
perhaps she did not know the history, she was just trying to look similar to the character
@Porcelaine Yeah, she might not have known the history, but other people have also caught hell for wearing blackface. She had to know it was a sensitivity even if she didn't know why.
that was not blackface that was cosplay. people are overly sensitive. you need to realize the difference between intentional racism and unintentional.
@Porcelaine. She might have had innocent intentions, but to the outside world, it will obviously read as blackface
Yes and people should judge the intention not jump to conclusions
@Porcelaine Strangers will not know a person's intentions, but certain things inspire certain reactions for good reason
I agree with the ban you can dress up as a character you like without putting on blackface.
It's retarded, but Twitch is a private company so it can do whatever the fuck it wants.
