Good luck with that.
Calf. already is shooting themselves in the foot.
No trucks over 10 years old, no glider kits, no older engines, you cannot get a permit to go into the state with any of those.
There are so many truckers that will not even go into that state to deliver goods that someday they will wonder why we are out of everything?
You can legislate anything that you want, but if the technology isn't there or it is so costly to build and maintain, a gallon of milk will cost you $20 or higher if you can get it at all because the banned cows because they fart.
Then watch the flood gates open and there will be a stampede to the east.
Oregon wanted to make it illegal to dispense diesel fuel in the state at some future date.
They are too stupid to realize that just about any kind of delivery truck, service truck runs on diesel.
Take out every single piece of construction equipment, every train, the vast majority of emergency vehicles, all trucks bringing food, medical supplies, goods, most back up generators, that state would grind to a halt in less than a month.
They want to use all electric vehicles.
Great, too bad they just do not exist.
Even if they did exist, there isn't the infrastructure in place to support them, and the catch 22 is that in order to construct all of the infrastructure needed to be able to operate all of the electric vehicles you need to rely on diesel powered vehicles to construct everything, but you can because you cannot sell diesel fuel!
What a bunch of retards.
Looks good on paper, but once you think it through that is hwere it all goes downhill.
California, maybe- the US, no. Most of us simply aren't that stupid. You would think that being the third-largest country by both area and population would give us population density comparable with the rest of the world, but it doesn't- we're far, far lower than most countries. It's just not possible here. The UK has a smaller, more densely packed population, with better public transit; it's not feasible there, but it COULD happen.
Now if you were to implement some form of owner-swappable power cells to run electric cars, you *might* be able to move off of gasoline (of course, given how much of our power infrastructure runs on oil, that really wouldn't change much; but then, few environmentalist activists actually think things through), but there's surprisingly little progress being made in that area- in a commercial sense, at least.
With droughts water generated power is iffy. Nuclear is too dangerous, so that still leaves us coal fired electric generating of power. I don't think going electric will fix anything, plus all nations would have to sign on to reduce pollution.
I'm 99% positive that will never happen in the US.
The UK is small enough and populated enough it could possibly work for them.
My "town" has like 7 total people in it and we're like a 30 minute drive from anything. It's not economic for any "professional" taxi service to provide transportation out here. No company would go for it.
In west coast Canada they are trying to make gasoline powered cars obsolete and want people to buy electric vehicles. The problem they face is how will this power be produced and electric cars maximum distance isn’t as far as a gas powered car. I’m not sure how this will work out.
Good question.

We kind of already here. I have worked as a mechanic for many years and most of the cars that I have serviced were leased. Plus, prices on cars are keep rising and they are becoming a whole lot more complicated. So, not only you have to pay a whole lot more if you decide to finance it, but it also will be very expensive for you to both fix them and maintain them, ones warranty runs out. Meaning even if you own a car, you still be shelling out 100's if not 1000's of dollars a year to keep it running. Your car expenses will never end.
Cars used to be easy to work on, but when they became computerized with all these sensors where 100 things can be wrong it makes you have to rely on the Stealerships to keep your car running. So unless you know a mechanic who knows all the new stuff and who works on the side who can help you out, you are SOL.
The last part is Very true and important. Unless you know mechanic who you can trust and who actually knows his stuff, you are screwed. That's why I kept preaching and still do NEVER buy a car Unless you know a good mechanic.
There are absolutely people in positions of power and influence in the US who want private ownership of cars outside of the elite to be illegal. It's actually pretty explicitly stated in some variations/visions of the Green New Deal, with electric buses and trains as the intended replacements as people are herded into major cities.
None of the people pushing that measure have a damn clue about how ridiculously impractical and expensive that move actually is, but because they're exempting themselves from it (of course), it doesn't concern them.
It’s a barking mad MP.
it’s unworkable and amazingly expensive.
if you took a simple example of 4 people living in same street but working at different companies on a large industrial site.
They have different start times, different finish times, overtime, planned and unplanned.
The problem is they allow MPs to speak in public without someone sense checking them.
Where does the shared car get parked, who charges it up, who pays for insurance, all 4 ?
public transport is crap and often needs 2 changes of bus to go 6 miles.
Expect a big exodus from California in the next 8 years.
If they ban gasoline powered cars, does that mean I can't drive my gas powered car into California on vacation? Expect tourism to take a big hit, also.
Now that is a good question. I'm wondering when the Californian's are going to regret re-electing Nuisance?
There is no agenda to " Ban " cars in the UK , that is simply not true , its about going all electric , and it is a logical move , even if you do not agree with climate change , this is just clear common sense , cleaner air , less cancer and many other benefits.
A wise move with regard to car ownership , is not to " ban " it , but just to make it an economic choice , as per Singapore , bans dont work , logic does. Now to be able to provide this outcome , you need really good transport options , this could be any number of things , car share , driverless cars , inexpensive taxis ,
clean trains , buses , trams , etc etc , now its all about how you achieve that outcome is total , cars , as in individual cars has never been of any logic , so you simply make it so unappealing that only a collector , or a fool , would wish to own an individual car. Is this achievable? Well , honestly unlikely to occur in my lifetime , only mainly in big cities. #Sorry was cut off mid stream.
Just raise the price of gasoline. It is already close to $5 a gallon here in California. If gas was $20 a gallon people would take public transportation. Unfortunately, not everyone has public transportation in their area.
Yah because electrical cars do the thinking for you. And they won’t go places that your car software gets updated with.
@molonski2Tell me, how is electric power generated in the UK?
Spoiler - energy production is currently not very clean. But electric cars do migrate the pollution away from the city areas, where the people are. So there is a win there.
As to transport infrastructure. Lots could be done to make this better. The current government does not appear to understand what needs to be done and has instead sunk a whole lot of money into a vanity project instead. One that your generation will be paying for for your entire working lives.
Generally power is not what you have to worry about.
Tesla had already invented free source energy.
The U. S gov destroyed it.
So don’t give me this crap like they give a shit.
28% of electricity in the UK is generated from renewables, mostly wind.
upload.wikimedia.org/.../...newables_generated.PNG
This is moronic. There is no conspiracy. There is no plan to 'take away people's rights bit by bit'. Why is this conspiracy mindset now mainstream? Why are people just angry at any and all authority, like children angry at their parents for telling them to brush their teeth, and wishing they therefore didn't have parents at all?
There is no car ban in the UK.
Only hybrids will be sold from 2030.
Only fully electric will be sold from 2035.
People will still be able to own and buy cars.
Stop reading whatever fake news site you found this nonsense on.
Exactly and these dates are still kind of flexible as they have been pushed back already
And electric cars, by then, will be better in every way *and cheaper* than normal cars. So people will be buying them anyway - cheaper to run, almost no maintenance, faster, easier, charge at home, etc.
@bodiesandsWell that's great for your little town but so much for road trips.
@Ryfyle li-ion batteries struggle with temperature and do very occasionally just burst into flames. (But then for different reasons, so can a combustion car).
The next generation of batteries will replace li-ion with solid state batteries which have different properties and are expected to be common place by the end of this decade.
From an article on this:
"The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) found that in 2018, a total of 212,500 vehicle fires caused 560 civilian deaths in the US. Yes, there were Tesla fire-related incidents in 2018 — six, according to that list provided by the Tesla critics. Six, that is, if you count the NTSB links they used that goes to a page not found."
Another excerpt:
I wanted to do a quick comparison of a common energy source with EV fires. The reason for choosing this is that I use natural gas in the home I rent.
According to RP Gas Piping, there were around 286 serious natural gas explosions annually across the US. Anyone with a natural gas line into their home faces the risk of some type of fire-related incident. I have natural gas, for example. If I turned on the stop and the light didn’t catch and I didn’t pay attention, I could accidentally blow myself up if I left it unattended and came back and lit a match.
In October 2021, Consumer Reports reported that diesel Ram trucks were recalled for fire risk and noted that owners should park outdoors and away from structures or other vehicles until the free solution was available and completed.
In June 2021, Click2Houston reported that over 6.5 million vehicles were under recall because they could catch fire at any moment. The list of brands did not include Tesla, and the cars in question were not EVs.
AutoinsuranceEZ recently released the findings of its study, Gas vs. Electric Car Fires [2021 Findings], and according to the data, hybrid vehicles have the most vehicle fires per 100,000 vehicle sales, followed by gas vehicles. Some quick facts directly from the study are:
Millions of gas, hybrid, and electric vehicles are recalled annually for fire risks.
Gas vehicles have the most manufacturer recalls for fire risk defects.
Electric vehicles catch fire less often, but electric car fires can be harder to put out than gas car fires.
Better avoid all those petrol bombs too then.
Yeah about that, Petrochemical Cars don's flash into a 1000 degree firestorms hot enough to break hydrogen out of water. Lithium Ion batteries can straight burn in a vacuum and are near impossible to snuff out with water, and the shit they use to fight Lithium Fires is crazy toxic. Retarded nanny state cattle need to shut the fuck about things you don't understand or want to understand.
Yeah... still worth it though.
In ten years, many many more cars will be electric, and deaths from fires will be reduced compared to now (as they are already in Teslas, see above).
So any of this backwardly-justified half-baked sour-grapes nonsense will be shown to be irrelevant.
Just like the fears of electricity itself in the beginning (Edison electrocuting elephants etc, look it up) were shown to be FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) desperately thrown up by those with a vested interest in keeping the status quo, even as their products and era came to an end.
The Story of the Fox and The Grapes:
A Fox one day spied a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree. The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the Fox's mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them.
The bunch hung from a high branch, and the Fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more. Again and again he tried, but in vain.
Now he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust.
"What a fool I am," he said. "Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for."
And off he walked very, very scornfully.
There are many who pretend to despise and belittle that which is beyond their reach.
Nah...
Banning cars in the US would be totally impractical; things are are too far apart to make that even remotely feasible. We would need a massive infrastructure overhaul to make it work for crosscountry shipping and travel, and that would be the easy stuff. Even then, you would have to build the infrastructure to get people around without cars on the local level.
Not to mention where all these cars are going to recharge at? You can't just stop at a gasoline station, fill up, and be on your way in10 minutes.
Not to mention the horrific impact of manufacturing electric cars and the absolutely insane amount of power we'll need to generate to keep them charging. That power has to be generated somehow, and you aren't going to get that from solar panels. Nuclear power is the future, but people would rather set up windmills and solar panels than have a nuclear powerplant in their backyard.
Nuclear doesn't work - 3 Mile Island, Hanford, Chernobyl, Fukushima, plus all the spent material that has been stored and is now leaking into the water table from rusting, leaking containers.
Now that we've improved the kinds of materials we put into fission reactors, the waste is less of a concern The vast vast majority of nuclear power plants are and always have been extremely safe. There has been massive improvements in the technology in areas where it was lacking.
There's just no reason to not go nuclear. Not when the amount of power you get per acre is so much greater than any other means of production.
Of course. This is what the high gas prices are really about. They want to get rid of all vehicles except public transportation and want YOU to go green. To aid this they will shut down our pipelines and do other things to cause fuel prices to rise, hoping you’ll kick that gas guzzling V8 which is oh so dangerous to the environment (according to them) to the curb and consider getting an electric car or just taking the looser cruiser instead.
The oil companies, auto manufacturers and lobbyists are too powerful to make cars disappear altogether... that may never happen. In addition, there are millions of jobs indirectly related to the auto industry, from gas stations to toll collectors to car park (parking lot) attendants to mechanics. Eliminating cars would cripple the economy by putting millions out of work.
Government mandated socialism, no one works and everyone gets handouts
Cause even more unpayable government debt
They want everyone waiting for their money from Biden's bukkake of bucks
The infrastructure of the US is centered around independent ownership of vehicles. We do not have a public transportation infrastructure like the UK it would never work here. Plus people would be outraged. We are use to doing things on our schedule when we want without relying on other people.
So banning the use of gasoline powered cars is somehow banning private ownership of all cars?
Wow.
I mean, I have seen some faulty logic at GaG, but that one has to be up there close to the top.
Tesla made a cyber truck with more hauling space, more power, faster than any other gasoline powered truck on the market.
But your rights are violated if you want to drive diesel?
But what is it's range? And how long does it take to recharge? And where will it recharge? With gasoline/diesel it's takes maybe 10 minutes to refuel and you're on your way. With the delays in transportation taking 8 hours to recharge is not economically feasible. You would need huge truck stops to be able to recharge all the trucks. And each one would need it's own mini hydroelectric dam to keep it running.
What kind of question is that? If you are driving a gasoline powered truck, I can guarantee you that an electric powered vehicle will have more range. These are just scientific facts.
Diesel is a different story.
https://www.tesla.com/cybertruck
But don't forget, batteries have a life and when it comes time to replace them it will cost an arm and a leg, especially on a big truck. Also all those batteries would weigh a lot reducing the load a truck can carry as they are limited to 80,000 ibs. as it is.
LOL. Considering all the poop going in UK lately - - - - - - -
This Bravo Sierra stuff makes me cringe.
And please do not let anyone tell you electric cars are "zero emission". The dirt/emissions are made SOMEWHERE at SOMETIME, SOMEHOW, they just aren't coming out of a tailpipe.
'UK moving towards banning private ownership of cars'
I don't think so we need them as public transport is so BS, And as for America doing it the are worse of than the UK, life in America is built around the car, I've lived there, in the UK you are within easy walking distance of a shop, in America unless you're living in a rural town you need a car to go shopping.
The UK would lose a lot of money banning private ownership of cars but I could see them switching to electric in the next 20 years as for California no one‘s going to want to visit there if they can’t even drive their gas powered car over the state line and what about all the diesel trucks. Well this is reminding me of the movie the last chase which Lee Majors starred in

I don’t think public ownership of vehicles will be banned in the U. S. There’s too much money at stake selling them. We are going to transition away from gas powered cars soon though. Not only will that be good for carbon emissions, it will be good for the consumer. Electric rates are far less volatile than oil prices are. It makes a lot of sense. Change isn’t always bad.
I'm sure you know that if everyone had an electric car the power grid would collapse and put millions out of work. What do you think will recharge all these electric cars? Most likely new coal fired generating plants. So how is that going to help carbon emissions?
Coal fired power plants are already systematically being shut down all over the country in favor of wind and solar. In 10 years when electric cars become the norm, they will likely be extinct. Obviously the power grid will have to be updated. That is already being addressed in the new infrastructure bill. That $65 billion is the just start. None of this will happen overnight.
We already have wind in California and the huge windmills are a blight to the landscape. We also have fields of solar panels which don't look as bad on the landscapes. We may as well use Yellowstone to create geothermal generating plants as it is a good source of heat.
Communists hate the idea of a personal means of transportation.
The Communists, who are also the Globalists, are working toward many tyrannical goals, as per the Lima Declaration of 1992.
The main goal is the destruction of industrialised civilisation.
Without an automotive industry, there can be no modern US economy.
Well, I think it's time to talk about a peaceful partition of the US, with a big wall along the entire border with California.
There is no way the US could enforce a ban on private car ownership. Aside from the fact that those who try to enforce it will get shot, it would be a logistical and bureacratic quagmire. In a country like the US it's simply not possible.
I doubt even California's gasoline car ban will actually work for the same reason.
I know quagmire is an actual word that means "horseshit problems" but honestly I never hear a person use it in a sentence anymore and all I can think about is the fucking Family Guy character.
I was low key referencing a scene in Mad Max: Fury Road lol
California is a liberal cesspit. Cost of living is too high and buying a house there is hella experience. All it's gonna do is hurt the state's economy.
California's law bans the sale of NEW gas powered vehicles by 2030 by which time most of the car industry will be selling electric cars. So fearmongering about public transportation is baseless and unwarranted.
https://www.forbes.com/wheels/news/automaker-ev-plans/
Well the UK is much smaller in size than America so i guess it could sorta be understandable. But the U. S. isn't going to do that because public transport is a money maker
@Daniela1982 where did you get your information about banning gasoline cars in California by 2030? Is this just more "scare me" stuff they put out there, then everyone forgets about doing it?
It has been in the news, but maybe just on my local feed. But no one cares what goes on in California, not even most of the residents because they still re-elected that Bone Head Newsince.
When I said "Newsince" -nuisance- I meant the California Governor Gavin Newsome.
Gasoline isn't a right, so no one is taking your rights away. Places that don't have public transportation will get it or they will adopt alternative fuels, like solar or electric.
That won't happen. In California. Mexicans in 8 years will over take white people and California and then it red. A liberal red but red.
The Democrats plan to convert "latino" doesn't work.
Latino been using the democrats to build their numbers then once they get adjusted they'll toss them aside.
But the UK yeah those are nazi places. So I can see them doing that. look at new zeland and Australia and France
And when that happens they will open the borders.
Yeah a lot of them have dual alliance and dual culture. And probably practice nepotism in the future.
If you notice they are spreading their territory out.
They might not open the border but they'll have easier laws for access or people who. Are already here.
There's kids and grandkids who are legal or anchor baby will fight for the illgeals who are here. Then converting the population.
Democrats want the vote. But they only offer immigration.
Long story short California will turn red. Look at the gavin newcomer election. And the Hispanic vote.
They tolerate him because he give them stuff and ignores stuff like street vendors
The border is already open…at least with Mexico.
Not with Canada though. We only allow mass illegal immigration with non white people.
Well, this moron we have as a governor will not be around in 2030, so his idea of banning ICE vehicles is just that, "Bullshit". There is no way this idiot could 'mandate' that, and everybody knows it and he just talks out of his mind.
oh man driving is fun
hello everybody I'm new years milk goblin, I've come to spread holiday cheer!!
respond with how many cups milk you would like to have bones with good calcium.
Note: Replying with "doot doot" will not yield good calcium. I am not Mr Skeltal. Stop asking where my trumpet went. Thank you
Nope and nope.
Electric vehicles are a different ball game. Also PCP finance does not mean end of "private ownership".
Actually, the opposite, as most sold cars are second hand cars, compared to buying new.
Cars are pretty destructive for the environment so we have to move away from them but I agree with you we need way way better public transport so we don’t lose freedom of movement. It will save millions of lives if we do move away from the car
But it will also cost many millions of jobs. Auto dealerships, mechanics, tire manufacturers, auto parts stores, gasoline stations, auto insurance companies, etc.
yes jobs sure, but what about the 500,000 americans killed in car accidents?
Want about the 420,000 who die each year from smoking?
I would rather drink, smoke and face the risk of car accident than a snowflake government asking me to walk and calling it protection
Yes smoking also should be highly regulated so that only adults smoke. And even then it should be discouraged.
@Tstrbrainer that’s fine except for the car part, becuase that involves killing other people not just hurting yourself, which is fine by me
So what do you suggest?
We need to travel, right? 😂
@Tstrbrainer sure, way better public transport for start. So that you don’t fee a loss of freedom with less car use.
Nope. I need my space and privacy.
@Tstrbrainer bike? Walk? I mean I get you want space and privacy but even if it kills half a million Americans? (Look up the statistics yourself if you don’t believe me)
@Tstrbrainer most people in the Netherlands for example don’t own cars and live better lives than Americans. Healthier happier better educated….
Most of those deaths are caused by idiots who don't know how to drive.
@Daniela1982 exactly.
Even bike causes trouble, right?
And I'm not American and I will still go for my space and privacy even if a billion people die because I'm not the one running them over with my car.
But the Netherlands is small and doesn't have as many cars plus they can travel by boats.
@Tstrbrainer that is psychotic
That's practical. Why should I give up my necessities because of some people who don't know how to drive?
@Tstrbrainer is psychotic to say it’s ok if a billion people die. You have no idea what death does to a family, let alone a billion families… that is monster level shit
But if the people who drive want to gamble with their lives it is their right. Let's talk about the million lives that are taken every year by abortion. So let's ban sex.
But many people killed were just walking down the street and got by a car. How is that their fault? Places with less cars have less of these entirely preventable deaths
Well someone getting cancer is not their fault either.
It was that pedestrian's right to walk down the street instead of using his car. So it's fair.
And death is inevitable.
@Tstrbrainer Holy crap you’re a psycho I can’t talk to you anymore have a good life
I'm just a human. Not an overly sensitive person.
Someone really needs to figure out the alternatives!
The US doesn't generate enough electricity to meet the power demands now. Unless you consider rolling black outs as meeting the demand!
American cannot sustain a public transportation system like Europe. To many places without service, too much empty spaces. The plebs would end up storming the White House over it.
yeah that won't happen, too much money in the automotive industry
Main means of transport... Once that was a horse; meanwhile it is the (over-rated) car. Why not look for the next step? Stagnation won't bring mankind anywhere.
As for your question: If there's money to make: the U. S. WILL follow
Woo gotta love politics. People read random crap on the internet and jump to illogical conclusions. Simply because what they are reading is based on politics.
It's for climate change and shit, I think. They're probably gonna try and go electric or sumn.
Shit? They trying to get everyone to use composting toilets too?
Noooo not like actual shit 💀 nevermind dude-
Needs to happen if humanity will not going to go extinct. But the right wingers will throw a tantrum. They'd rather go extinct than give up hauling their fat arses around in an SUV
California has voted for insanity and that is just what they have now.
I guarantee the rest of the country won't do that.. over 50% of states are red.. Which means over 50% of the country will stand against that kind of stupidity.
If the democrats get their way, then that will happen. And no, I am not ok with it.
Even if the UK did this there is NO way the U. S. would follow.
Relax ma'am, it's not happening.
No, it will be hard to take away everyone's cars when everyone is armed.
They don't have to take them away, just stop selling gasoline.
But, people will pay it. When ammunition was scarce and prices were high people still bought it.
This is all part of NWO!! You’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy. God help us.
In the future you won’t be able to own a toaster even. If people follow along like sheep.
No, I do not. Liberty has 4 wheels. We will unlock gun safes to protect our rights.
Sounds like communism to me. Can't wait to see all the broken down government cars clogging the highways
Probably especially with China Joe doing whatever Xi tells him to in the kinky sex basement he was hiding in
Ban private cars? In that case, I'm buying a 4t diesel truck to drive to the local shops.
Hope they dont if they do a lot of people are gonna get arrested for stupid shit
UK here. I can assure you there's no plan to ban private cars. We ARE phasing out petrol driven models.

Electric and hydrogen cell vehicles will be permitted in California after 2030 so there will be no change to how people get around.
Not a chance in hell. The US is probably the most autocentric country in the world.

Would be great but also I uk it will not happen any time soon...
You'll own nothing and be happy. Just like the people in the camps. They've never been happier. #socialcreditscorededucted
I think cars need to become a service not a good to be owned. For the sake of our environment, we need to breakaway from car ownership.
Depends if your town has an excellent public transit system. Either that or someplace that has all the stores you need to sustain yourself. NYC probably has more taxis then privately owned vehicles. But even taxis and busses need gas.
This ofc means a robust improvement in accessibility to rapid inexpensive transportation EVERYWHERE for EVERYONE!
Sure. Trucks are better anyway.
yeah. communism is globally taking over...
lol, no the US won't follow. Whata stupid idea.
Well they are working towards that in California. Just a matter of time.
Won't happen in any red states.
the whole world will follow
