Johnny Depp, why are Feminists claiming he's set back women's rights and legal protection for abused women back 50 years?

Surely Amber Heard is the one who has done this with her lies and for her physical, mental and emotional abuse of Johnny Depp. After it was over despite all she done to Depp in the relationship rather than just walk away and say to the media or anyone else it didn't work out she choose to commit a campaign of lies to both harm Depp and to promote her own career as a virtuous victim and strong independent woman. Personally I think women can be bad people just like men but women's weapons are usually not physical.

First of all, I'm assuming you're just throwing "feminists" in there because you don't like feminists. In the parts of the video where the Depp/Heard case was discussed, feminists and feminism weren't even mentioned. Hell, I consider myself a feminist, and I'm on his side. If that's the case, shame on you.

Anyway: One or both of them are clearly lying in this case, and a lot of people believe that Heard is lying. Whether or not that's true, this isn't gonna put women in a very positive light. A lot of people are gonna remember this when other women come forward with abuse allegations in the future, and it has already been a struggle for women to be heard - let alone believed - in the past when it comes to cases like this.

Having said that, if she is lying about Depp abusing her, then you can't blame Depp for that ofc, and it's just an unfortunate situation for women that I absolutely would hold Heard responsible for. At least we'll have shed some light on the fact that men can also be victims of abuse, which should hopefully at least even things out a bit.

You can define feminist however you want but people who wish to discriminate in favor of women are feminist to me and much of the population. If you want to claim neutrality and equality pick a neutral and equal word that doesn't contain the female "fem" prefix

@monorprise I'm aware that a substantial portion of the population in the US believe that feminists discriminate in favor or women, but I would argue that that's either due to propaganda or plain ignorance for whatever reason. I'm open to being wrong ofc. Maybe I'm the ignorant one, but it's my impression that the vast majority of people that would call themselves feminists, do so in the name of equality for both genders, and only an extreme minority are the feminazis that nobody likes. "Feminist" and "Feminism" are just terms signifying that you believe in equality for both genders. The name of the movement doesn't matter. It is an unfortunate name though, I'll give you that, but it is what it is.

I mean in my opinion, people focus too much on the label. It's just people wanting better gender equality. We don't necessarily agree on the approach to that issue, and with the Depp v. Heard case I bet you there's a lot of self-proclaimed feminists that are supporting Depp. Even if these people in the video do identify themselves as feminists, they absolutely don't speak for all feminists.

@ColHathi I think perhaps a new gender neutral word for a supposedly gender neutral concept would be in order. As it stands the word itself imply preference for female bias, which naturally leads to its uses in that regard in addition to whatever other uses you give it.

You've never gone up against the Feminist movement before, have you? ANY opposition to them or their goals, or any distraction from ite is slandered as "an ottack on women", to automatically delegitimize it in the public eye. Men's rights in these situations is severely lacking right now. Depp didn't "put women back" he brought MEN to light.

In the end, things will be a lot more balanced if people in the justice system do what they're supposed to in terms of finding and exposing the truth.

Women have always needed the plausible deniability afforded to them by a society that believes women are above evil. We've seen many times, women are willing to forgo what is RIGHT and moral in order to maintain this get out of jail free card. We hear from feminists and womens groups "If we punish false accusers, then real victims will be too afraid to come forward." So basically the dude that went to prison, lost scholarships, kicked out of school, family and friends disowned him and the "victims" relatives probably kicked his teeth in... yea fck him, women more important.

For a feminist, the right to accuse a man of anything, and NOT have that accusation be investigated, and man punished, is a "woman's right." This is the genesis for "Believe all women" and #MeToo. I'm not really anti-feminist (in either sense of the term), but a major problem they have is they rely too much on creating a complex and specific narrative, that the rest of their arguments crumble if that narrative is threatened.

Will this set back abused women's rights? Yeah, probably a few at least. But not because we're seeing a man who was a victim and a woman who is a victimizer. But because this whole time, we've been talking about women as victims and men as victimizers, and building our arguments based on that narrative.

That is, it's not that the event itself is damaging. It's that their arguments are too fragile to withstand the nuance.

If they had just avoided the "men are abusive and women are innocent and pure" narrative, this whole thing would be a threat to absolutely no one, and would strengthen arguments towards helping victims seek help and knowing how to spot a victimizer. This whole thing would have been a major WIN for them had they just formed a more nuanced, more universal, and less prejudiced narrative.

According to a mental health professional Amber Heard has HPD and BPD. I actually pity her. What it appears that she did to JD is criminal. I hate to see trials like this one. But, this is what pop culture has left us. because I know several ladies who were in fact psychologically, sexually, and physically abused by men it makes me angry when I do hear about false charges because it makes it harder for the real victims to get justice! Regarding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, like every Court Case, there are three sides to every story, the Plaintiff, the Defender, and the Truth. It will come out, the truth always has a way of unveiling itself no matter how it looks, or how convenient or inconvenient it is.
