What do you think of the mashed potato thrown over the £96,000,000 Monet painting?

Climate change activists have thrown mashed potatoes at Claude Monet’s ‘Les Meules’ painting before gluing themselves to the floor. The two Letzte Generation (Last Generation) campaigners entered Potsdam’s Barberini museum in Germany this afternoon in high vis jackets.

They lob two bowls of liquified potato at it before gluing their hands to the floor. It remains unclear if the artwork was damaged or if it is behind protective glass. Sharing the video to the group’s Twitter account, a spokesperson said: “We make this #Monet the stage and the public the audience.

‘If it takes a painting with #MashedPotatoes or #TomatoSoup thrown at it to make society remember that the fossil fuel course is killing us all: Then we’ll give you #MashedPotatoes on a painting!’

This comes after Just Stop Oil activists threw soup over a priceless painting by Vincent Van Gogh in the National Gallery. The activists entered the central London gallery on 14 October and hurled a load of foodstuffs at the painting the Dutch artist’s iconic ‘Sunflowers’ then glued themselves to the wall in their latest environmental protest.

After chucking the soup at the painting, one of the protesters then asked the gathered crowd: ‘What is worth more, art or life? Is it worth more than food? ‘More than justice?’

Though this gives them attention, I am not sure how it will solve the issue. Yes it gets people talking about it but it is also making people angry as they are dirupting people's lifes. The other day I heard they were protesting on a bridge and they had to close the bridge causing hour long delays!

As far as I am aware governments all around the world have just ignored this. Plus the fact there are people starving and they are wasting food like this is beyond me 🙄

It's funny how this keeps happening in Europe and not one of these high art pussies ever hire extra security or anything. Man, if this was the US or a country that had some balls, they would be billy clubbing the shit out of these upper middle class snowflakes. It's not even about the art, it's the blatant disrespect thinking you can get away with this and have NOTHING happen to you.

Same thing with those pussies wasting milk in the grocery store and all the management can do is look at them and politely ask them to stop, instead of punching them in the face.

I actually worked security for four years. I would've fucked these guys up, from top to bottom. Then they would've gotten arrested after detained by us. It is literally your job, to stop people like this. I'm guessing, this museum, somehow has no human security, whatsoever? If so, then they deserve this.

And yes, I am 100% aware that this group is being funded by some oil millionaire chick, Aileen Getty, from the Climate Emergency Fund. So it's just astroturfing (fake), for the most part.

But still, they at the museum don't know that. I gotta ask you Europeans: Where did your balls go?

be better if they threw their evidence on the floor, threw their oil products in the recycling for good (clothing, belts, etc..), stopped using disposable cups, stopped taking oil based energy transportation, and last but not least... turned their thermostats down to 45C max.

and last but not least... protest the war in Ukraine to stop that mess... because that is heating up the planet, possibly going to destroy areas for generations.

as such, we should get a group together and go over their house and destroy their stuff... in the interest of climate change.

I would pay millions over a painting. That value to me is zero. But even so, I agree with many in here that behavior line this only hurts the goal of motivating polititions to pass laws that actually protect our precious planet more than businesses in dirty fields.
