A New York jury on Friday ordered former President Donald Trump to pay a total of $83.3 million to E. Jean Carroll for ruining her credibility as an advice columnist when he called her a liar after she accused him of sexual assault.

The jury awarded Carroll $65 million in punitive damages, $11 million for the damage to her reputation and another $7.3 million. Trump is almost certain to appeal the verdict.

Despite the size of the penalty, the verdict was not unexpected. Judge Lewis Kaplan ruled even before the trial that Trump had in fact defamed Carroll. The jury only had to decide how much Trump owed her — not if he was liable. This is the second time Trump has been ordered pay Carroll; last year he was mandated by a jury to pay $5 million for a separate instance of defamation.

This jury consisted of 7 men and 2 women and unanimously reached the conclusion that Trump maliciously defamed E. Jean Carroll. He brought this on himself. He lost the earlier case and then immediately went on the attack so she went after him again (which I predicted she would do here on G@G). Her lawyers used video of Trump in act of defaming her; that is, they used his own words against him. Just as bad, Trump was doing it IN THE COURTROOM within earshot of the jury. He was just giving them more and more evidence in the flesh of what a profound asshole he is.

I am looking forward to what Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron is going to hit Trump with for Trump's fraud which was already determined to have existed. The New York Attorney General, Letitia James, requests to fine Trump $370 million, ban him from the state’s real estate industry for life, and bar him from serving as the officer or director of a New York corporation. I don't know if she'll get all that, but given how Trump has constantly gone on the attack insulting her AND the judge.

Trump was "convicted" (*) by a jury of his peers.

During the voir dire process of the trial, his lawyers would have determined if any of these jurors were "anti-Trump" or "Trump haters". But his lawyers approved all 9 jurors on that jury, thus none were "Trump haters". (**)

Trump shoots his mouth off right after the first trial. He shoots his mouth off IN the trial. He got what was coming to him because of who he is: a manchild who got away with oceans of shit when he was young so he grew up believing 1) he was practically perfect and 2) could do whatever he wanted with impunity.

Beyond feeling, does not make sense to me that $85 million in damage was done for what he said. I have the same issue with so many other verdicts of punishment. I am not pleased with a ruling although is everybody knows I'm not a Trump supporter whatsoever. That said, I think this woman lied. I think when Trump said he had never met her before in his life he was actually telling the truth for once. Among other things, the woman very conveniently could not remember the date or even the year when these alleged acts actually occurred. According to her. A judge has now clarified that this is basically a legal distinction without a real-world difference. He says that what the jury found Trump did was in fact rape, as commonly understood.

The last paragraph has the judge explain to everyone that sexual abuse/rape same thing in the real world. Legal distinction or not. Stop playing partly with semantics. Yes he is not a sex offender because this was a civil case but he did rape her. The jury found that to be true. Civil lawsuit doesn't mean because it's not criminal suit he didn't rape her. He raped her and that's it.

The former verdict should not have been considered and a change of venue should have been granted to give the appearance of an impartial jury. We don't do show trials.
