Never received one or given one to a family member , but many years ago I used to sell greeting cards , it will simply be manufacturers trying to expand the catchment base.
But yeah , your analysis of the day is 100 % correct. The best cards are the ones with no signature , just post the card ( use type for the envelope ) send from all different locations , then must imagine that person " thinking - thinking " with no idea its simply you having a great lark -- it can even be taken further.

As a Southern man, I put my family before everything in my life, even Donald Trump. I'm sending my cousins this one.
I think giving Valentine cards to family is OK when you’re a kid. I look at it this way, your family Valentine cards need to stop around the same time as giving musical or dance recitals.
I don't think it's creepy to send Valentine cards to family. It's an expression of caring.
@snowedin is right, though. "Practically a voucher" was my feel-good moment of the day! :p

"practically a voucher" spit my coffee out laughing.
It's okay, and often done, to small children, but rarely to an adult family member.
I don’t think it’s weird at all. I don’t like living in a society where our definition of love is only romantic in nature.
Yeah, pass all those cards bye 👋
I still get Valentine's cards from Family members, one gives me gift card$
It would , coming from me because I never cared about cards.
I don’t think it would be creepy. After all, Valentines Day is all about love, romantic or otherwise! :)
I think Valentine's Day cards to Mom, Dad, Grandma & Grand-dad is fine but no one else unless it's a Husband or Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Wife.
No? It's just a card and they thinkin' about me. That's nice.
Only when they're sticky and smell like 5-day old underwear.
I do it and I get sent cards in the mail. Not creepy
I'm going to give the most honest opinion there is.. It's ok if a girl does it. That also applies to many other questions and actions :)
Yeah but hey it's a liberal society and Hallmark's CEO needs another jet in his hanger I guess
Not at all, I get all of my sister's valentine stuff
I thinks okay and it just be nice and saying you love them.
No, my mom used to plus she would get us kids candy
It’s just a card isn’t it so it don’t matter anyway …
No. I send my sister's and mom candy chocolate hearts on Valentine's day. It's never wrong to show somebody you care.
No, that is definitely not creepy.
