I was curious about this my whole life. The definition of love kept changing for me again and again, but I guess now I have finally found what love actually means, at least for me.

For me, love means care, a willingness to protect the person who means a lot to us, love means that willingness to share our happy and sad moments with that person. Love means acceptance, every good and bad of that person, and what actually makes him the person he is. Love means understanding that imperfections are the true reality. Nobody can always be perfect without judging them with our perception. Love means growing together and helping each other to grow into their better self always. Love means that safe surrounding where we need not think twice about being ourselves.

Love definitely doesn't mean what I'm feeling "from" the other person or what I'm getting, but love actually means what we do feel "for" the other person and what we are willing to give. When that giving makes us feel happy, satisfied, and at peace, that is actual love.

I asked myself this question for a long time, what does it mean when I say "I love you" or someone says it to me?

Loving someone starts with knowing them; you cannot love someone without first knowing them. Love often starts with an imagination or fantasy about someone, where we think we know them, but really it's a fantasy we've created. Often people also put a facade out, not who they really are, but they present what they think we want, in order to obtain our love. This type of false knowledge can lead to disillusionment and a dissipation of love, as it was based on nothing/fantasy.

Love is approval or acceptance. To embrace the person as they are. The more you truly know someone, the more it is possible to love them. But often people are afraid to show who they are, which makes it impossible to love that which they keep hidden. They deny themselves the possibility of acceptance. But once you trust someone, open up and be vulnerable, they can really know you and really love you. The risk is they can also reject you, but really it's not as bad as being "fake loved" for being fake. Better to be real. True, real love, is amazing.

For me love doesn't just apply to romantic partners, it applies to anyone and everyone. Most people have said Valentines day only applies to couples and in my case that just isn't true. My parents have given me gifts on the day of to let me know that they love me (and I've done the same to them, by helping them pick out gifts). I've spent Valentines day with my friends and made treats to show that I love them and care about them. It is just another day of the year and February is just another month, but just like any other holiday you show those around you affection, love, care, etc. Some people would feel less lonely in the world if we remembered to do that. So what love means to me. This used to be a really hard question for me, I never had the answer to. So I love myself first and foremost. I feel a lot of people forget about themselves in a relationship, and forget to love themselves or feel it's selfish to love themselves and it's not. I've been guilty of this in the past. So my love is enough for me. Loving your good, bad and ugly. Forgiving yourself for mistakes and choices you have made. Accepting yourself for who you are. I believe you can love someone if you don't love yourself but it's really difficult. So you really should love yourself first or at least putting love into yourself. Love is something built over time. You may have love for someone but truly loving them comes from truly knowing someone. Getting to know them and letting yourself be valuable as well. Love is also fully accepting the person your with. You need to choose someone who your comfortable accepting all of them, and comfortable truly being yourself with this person. We are human and we are not perfect we will make mistakes. But for me loving someone is loving their good, bad and ugly just like myself. Not trying to change them. Being able to truly be yourself with them as well. Knowing that a relationship is 100% and 100% not 50% 50% and sometimes your not always going to have 100 and that's when your partner picks up the slack and sometimes you're both not going to be 100% that's when you make time for each other. Love is being there for the hard times and not giving up on them. Love is being there for them when they are sick and cannot go anything for themselves. Love is celebrating the good moments together. I also believe setting boundaries are also so important and shows love in my opinion. If you respect your partners boundaries and they respect your boundaries that shows love. Communicating even when it's hard. Having those hard conversations that no one wants to have but is super important. Love encompasses many different aspects. Love is not as simple as people make it out to be. If you love someone, you could hate them, but also be willing to die for them. You could be distant with someone, but when they really need you, you'll show up. You could want to give your loved ones the world, but never put any action into showing your affection. You could hold a grudge against that person, but still only wish them the best. You may not even realize how much you love someone until they're gone.

The cold hard truth is... love is based on reciprocation. Even when you think you love a baby unconditionally, it's not really unconditional. You love the idea that they are your own flesh and blood and that you'll help to instill your values in them and shape who they are as a person. You hope that they'll become a part of your legacy. For women, it's different as the baby was literally a part of them at some point and they have maternal instincts, son maybe a mother's love for her child is the purest form of love there is in life and the reason why reproduction is one of the most effective ways of the continuation of a species. But I promise you, that if the child does enough to push their parents over the edge, at that point even their parents will stop loving them.

In a significant other, you have a checklist for traits you want them to have. You want them to be honest and trustworthy, loyal, empathetic and caring, respect you, be committed and dedicated to you, listen to and understand you, put in effort to make you happy, and accept you for you. Without those traits and effort they put in, you can quite literally fall out of love with someone, lose feelings for them, and move on. That is why love is all about reciprocation.

True love is what everyone seeks. At the core of it is unwavering loyalty and trust. Knowing without a shadow of a doubt that person will always your back and always be there for you, not having to look over your shoulder every minute. Knowing they prioritize you over everything else. Knowing that they can put your needs above theirs in times when you need it. True love is committed and unwavering.

Well to me, love is a lot of things. It isn't limited to romantic love. It can be love for your parents and siblings and other family members (familial love). It can also be love for your friends. Love has broad meanings and, as complicated as it sounds, it can mean different things to different people as well! Heck, some people don't even have that kind of love for their family, or they're not capable of giving it or even receiving it. If you look at the news and see/hear all the bad stuff, somewhere inside that person, they have lost love for their fellow human. I also think that love means care. Love means to care about someone (sometimes even above your own needs). Love is actually rather simple, yet people like to complicate it. And yes, as I've said, it's synonymous to care. If you don't care, then you don't love. A lot of people would say that love is deeper than care, but often times, caring is the first step to loving someone or something. .. Now I'm not talking about love as in that overused word people proclaim when they say they love ice cream, pizza or their favorite sports team, or place to go on vacation like Disneyland or the Grand Canyon, etc. My definition of love is deeper than that. Love to me is when you are able to sacrifice things for the good for your relationship. .. This is going to sound morbid too, but it can even be as big as taking a bullet for someone and doing the ultimate sacrifice! To me, love is also commitment because it's not always easy to commit when times get tough.

.. So I know I said that love is simple, but it is also hard to do because not everyone is capable of such things because people's inherent will is to survive and to reproduce. That is where their selfish wants and needs come from. Of course people love themselves, but to love another person, as I've said, it can take a lot, because either they're not USED to doing that, or they aren't capable. Sometimes your love for your child (or your OBLIGATION to make sure that your child survives to puberty so that they can give you grandchildren), is also a selfish desire for your genes. To love isn't always easy. Heck, LIFE isn't easy, and it's about surviving. I also want to mention that there's different degrees to love. How much you love someone is ALWAYS tested. Steve Harvey said in his 2009 book "Act like a Lady, think like a Man", that when a man loves someone or something, he will PROTECT, PROFESS and PROVIDE for them. Maybe that is true, but sadly, I've yet to experience that outside my family. .. But anyway..

This is a True Story... no, I am not kidding.

A boy that I know, deep down inside had to find out if his fiance 'really' loved him, or not, prior to their soon upcoming wedding date. He knew she just relished and adored, most of all, his handsome thick naturally wavy, silky and shiny dark hair.

Just a few days prior to their wedding date, the door bell rang and she went to answer it. At first, being unable to move or speak, she stood as a statue in a state of stunned disbelief.
