Valentine's Day is horrible. Despite it being supposedly an ungendered holiday in practice, it turns out to be a day when women expect expensive presents and even when they do get them are never satisfied. Women also want specific things and expect men to read their minds regarding this. I don't know a single man who enjoys Valentine's Day and quite frankly most of us dread it.
If I had my way I would abolish Valentine's Day completely. The expectations are too great and the pitfalls are too severe.12 Reply- 1 y
Haha I don't blame you for how you feel. A lot of women do expect expensive gifts but I just so happen not to be one of them. The only thing I'm looking forward to is spending time with my boyfriend. I could care less about getting any gifts. It should be about spending time with the s/o not what you're going to get out of it.

Not a fan, death was in the family and I found out on the 14th when I just had gotten home from work

Oh wow that must have been absolutely devastating. I'm so so sorry for your loss.

Wow that's so sad to hear. I'm so sorry you lost so many people dear to you. That's awful. I hope that things get better for you.

You're so welcome!
1 yI tend to like Valentine's Day even though I've never had a partner in my entire life. I spend it with my friends or my parents. I'm going to make unicorn cupcakes for my besties on Monday since they both have it off. So, they get an early Valentines gift. But my parents always get me a gift on Valentines Day, so I don't feel sad & left out.

Aww that's so nice!

Yeah. It was actually funny once my other sisters found out my parents did that. They're like "Well, they never did that with any of us!" And I'm like "Well, you guys had boyfriends when you were younger to get that stuff. I'm the only one that wasn't allowed to date and therefore had to stay single so..." LOL
1 yNo I love it! It’s my dogs bday and sure I’d like a good man to spend it with but lol I’m never going to settle for some flowers and chocolates. I can be patient and in the meantime have a photo shoot with my toddler and doggo… maybe even bake some pastries.

Happy bday to your doggy! That's so nice you get to spend time with your toddler and doggo and have a photo shoot!

Why would said people be butthurt about not having someone to waste money on?
- 1 y
@SolitarySolace that's a separate topic, since the opinion isn't correct about the generalization.
Personally what I find more disgusting than hanging plastic testicles on Christmas trees to symbolize death of Attis, the tradition of Galli priests, is the Roman origin of Valentine's day.
Others are annoyed simply by fhe fact that someone else wants to control our orgies, instead of solely us deciding when we orgasm and when we don't. It's like having an "international wash your hands day" why would anyone follow a calendar to irrationally change their frequency of hand washing?
m 1 yI am neutral to it, always have been...
while I do not celebrate it myself, nor a girlfriend of mine was ever into it... I never hated it, I am not against it... and I don't mind if others enjoy it10 ReplyI have Celebrated many and Plenty of Them. Lovely. xxoo

1 yI enjoy it but we celebrate it a bit differently here in Japan. The custom is for only women to give men gifts. So I just sit back and relax and get a bunch of presents, usually things women cooked or chocolates or something to this effect.
Then a month later, we have what's called "White Day" where the men reciprocate and give gifts back to all the women who gave us gifts.
23 Reply- 1 y
Wow that's different and pretty cool.
I enjoy it a lot. It's also not quite as commercialized here and not just a couple's Holiday, like family, friends, all give gifts to each other.
My favorite gifts to receive are always home-cooked snacks and meals, like my niece-in-law gave me cookies she baked last time. I reciprocated a month later by cooking giant gummy bears for her.- 1 y
Aww that's so sweet. Makes me want to move to Japan lol
I'm a woman, but personalny I don't enjoy IT. Maybe because when I was at school everybody thought of this day as 'practice' before April's Fool Day and as I was the youngest they always played pranks on me and laughed at me later on. When I got older no Man cared enough to even remember about IT and give me a Simple flower. This day just frustrates me.

1 yI don’t believe in Valentine’s Day. It’s just yet another thing for women. Another reason for men to waste their money on shit women don’t need that’ll just end up at a goodwill someday and said women are only happy because they got their man to waste his hard earned cash on her while she gets to keep her own money for herself. Fuck Valentine’s Day. I hate seeing all the bloody hearts and shit. It pisses me off. As if we don’t have enough bullshit for women these days

It's sarcasm. I was joking. Hence the lol
1 yIt's a commercialized holiday meant to entice more consumers to buy cards, candy and flowers.
21 Reply- 1 y
Yeah I used to feel that way and sort of still do.
1 yI think it's a cool holiday but... there is absolutely no need to put pressure or go crazy over the top spending.
Just another day where you make a special effort whatever that looks like for you.
11 Reply- 1 y
I agree.
I'm not a fan of it, painful reminder when your single and in a relationship while its fun its also super commercialized. I prefer celebrating our anniversary day, but I did enjoy doing something special on valentines day to.

1 yIt was promoted for commercialism. I am not against it but I’m not heartbroken that I am not participating in it either.
From my observations it’s a bigger deal to women than men.

1 yNo I always liked it since I was a kid giving cards and candy to all my classmates. It has always been something fun to look forward to, I still give stuff to my family on Valentines day.

1 yI wouldn’t say it “sucks,” to me that means it would make me feel crappy about myself. I just think it’s a stupid and unnecessary holiday. It almost seems forced and not authentic in a way

I understand. I used to feel that way myself.

Oh ok. I used to think of it like that as well. But being long distance I want to enjoy every holiday I can get with my boyfriend. We don't have to do anything fancy or he buy me anything really. I just like to spend time is all for Valentine's. It's a special day to commemorate our love for one another.
- 1 y
I mean that's true but I just like the idea of celebrating on Valentine's day because neither one of us have ever had a Valentine's before. The novelty will probably wear off after a couple of years together but right now it's something new and exciting.
