Why is my ex boyfriend calling me all of a sudden?

My ex boyfriend and I have been broken up for about 7 months now. I would call and text him, but he would not reply to any text messages or call back at least the same day I called. He would have some excuse like my battery was low, my phone was on silent. Then, as of today he called at least 6 times, saying "i was just calling to tell you my status. " I need some feedback, what has got into this guy? Why is he telling me his status and his locations, when we are no together?
