In your opinion, what are the most important characteristics to show a girl on a first date? I'd like to hear the guys take on this too if you have some experience in what works well.
Show her your undivided attention. Remember people/things dear to her I. E. Pet, bff, birthdays. And bring it up later on your date to show you cared to remember. Everyone's giving great tips here, I guess I'll mention the Donts as well. Don't be fidgety, don't be on your cell phone if you can help it (texting included), don't try to force her to do anything she objects to, and don't be late.
-Showing confidence with out talking TOO much About yourself. -Humor, is ALWAYS good. -Respect(opening cardoors is a FAR overlooked thing now-a-days!) -Respond with actual speech when she talks...not just " yea, uh huh, nope, negative, affirmative", etc, etc.. -Ask questions about her life ( what she does at her job, if she has siblings, music she likes...)
What I look for is 1) when conversations seem to continue into the next with minimal effort on trying to make the conversation happen and 2) having fun and losing track of time- certain dates have a certain "flow," if you really get along. And you tend to look forward to the next date. Getting to know someone and everything else usually follows... usually.
This may seem like a silly answer, but too many people try to show traits and this person that they really are not. True, a lot of women like humor, but if you are not a funny person, how long do you think that you can act funny,... and really, how enjoyable is that going to be on your third, fourth, fifth date etc,...
Just be yourself, and if the girl you are with doesn't like that, then she will not hang out with you again, but trust me, if she doesn't like who you are now, she wouldn't later on, so it's best to find out sooner, and look for someone you can be really happy with.

Describe your ideal first date; Where do you go? What do you wear? How does the date end?
I nice dinner date at a restaurant, be it steakhouse, Japanese hibachi or Italian. I would wear business casuals but nothing over the top and all cleaned up. We would talk about anything but I would do most of the listening to show I am focused on her. Afterwards, a nice drive around town for a few or a walk in the park if the weather is good. To end the date, I will never try to steal a kiss.
