This guy use to flirt with me and then he stopped. Then I just realized, what if he got a girlfriend? How do I ask him if he does? He use to be VERY obvious about flirting with me so I feel like if I just asked him, "Do you have a girlfriend?" It might seem desperate.

My gut here would be to just ask. If you're really worried about it though, you could ask him what he's doing on the weekend or whatever and then wait until he says a date-like event. Then ask who he's doing that with. Honestly though, I'm a big fan of removing all the weird, underlying tension. So I'd probably say something like "You've been less friendly than you used to be. What happened?"

Yes, treat us equal in every way, even if it causes us problems

No, we should get equality when we want it, but preferential treatment other times.
