Why is it so awkward?

Question

Whenever I'm talking to a guy that I like, or just in general, it gets really awkward. The whole time I am thinking "I hope there isn't an awkward silence!" What can I do to be less nervous, and create more conversation instead and saying straight up, "What sports do you do?" "What do you do in your free time" That sounds to.like weird.

The only reason that there is an awkward situation is because you feel that its awkward. If you have the right mindset, nothing can be awkward. My friend has only had one awkward moment in her whole life. When she was at the movies she saw some girl blowing some guy, no big deal, but afterwords she realized that she knew both of them and was friends with the girl. If you think of that whenever you get into an awkward situation, you will realize that the situation isn't that awkward and all of a sudden its normal again.

everyone feels that way. guys and girls. every race religion and creed. everyone feels awkward when talking to a member of the opposite sex they like. try saying I like your outfit or you have gorgeous eyes. compliments go a long way and remember the guy is nurvous too

haha used the akward turtle hand gesture,(Youtube it if you don't know what it is)  some people don't know what it is, and it always gets a conversation going for me. but  maybe before you go out with this guy, come up with a few ideas of what you might ask him, ask him about his favorite memory growing up, and see if that doesn't start a converstation, try to ask more questions about what he said, to keep it flowing

yeah I do the same, then point out the awkwardness at every silence by saying, "wow. this is awkward".

Try being in a group first.  Having a friend there at first can take the pressure off.  I've totally been there in the most awkward way possible haha but don't worry, it's totally natural(: It's likely that he feels the same way.
