He asked me about my "love life"

i hadnt talked to him in a wile. then one day I randomly talked to him for like 2 min and I was like wow I haven't talked to you in forever and stuff like that. then that night, for the first time in like 6 months he texted me (hes pretty shy) and 5 min. into our convo he asked how my "love life" was. in the two years that I've known him he's never once asked me a question like that. and I told him I liked this one guy, but that he prob. doesn't like me back hbu and he said something about being single. then I asked do you like anyone and he said nope not really? what does that mean? every time a guy that I'm not like really close to has asked me that question they asked me that question because they liked me... but I don't know what to think this time! help!
