This guy called me about the physics homework but there was "flirtatious joking" and he asked me questions unrelated to the homework while we we're on the phone. Could that be a sign that maybe he's possibly interested in me?

Oh and I should point out that the none homework related questions he asked me were still in some way related to school. Just thought I'd point that out so people knew he wasn't asking questions like what;s your favorite movie or something like that.

Completely agree with the previous post... the homework is just the way to get in the door as they say.. and as you said in the update----he asked about school, again, I would do the same.. move in slowly, in a nonthreatening way. So I would say he is interested. You just have to go along and do some flirting too if you're interested of course, so that he gets the 'right' signal..
It means he's clearly interested in you, he just needed an excuse to call you (the physics homework). One of the oldest tricks, I use it all the time.
Just wanted an excuse to call you. it's a classic technique.
