My New Rollerblades

One day I walked into a sporting goods store. In the store I noticed these brand new rollerblades. I use to have a pair of rollerblades but they got all beat up and broken. I use to have fun on them, but eventually they broke and I stopped skating. These new skates were the coolest things I had ever seen! They were pretty pricey but I decided to buy them.

On the way home I was so excited. I kept thinking about how fun it was going to be to skate around the neighborhood. It was going to make me so happy to show off my new skates. I could now skate at the park, at the beach or I could even join a roller hockey league! There were so many new things that I could now experience.

I finally got home. I ran inside and went to my room to open my new rollerblades. It was a beautiful day out. It was 72 degrees and sunny. What a perfect day.
I finally decided to open them. The box was big. It was a real hefty box.

I thought to myself,"Man, they must really need to protect these things".

I finally found the side of the box to open but it was taped. And when I say it was taped I mean it was TAPED! There must have been like 20 layers of tape on the box. I started to get a little frustrated. It took me almost a half hour just to get it off. I finally was able to open the box and THERE THEY WERE!

except they were wrapped in plastic. . .

Now I had to find the opening to the plastic. I kept looking but I was not able to find it. I tried ripping the plastic but it was too tough. I eventually had to get a razor blade and cut a hole neatly into the bag.

FINALLY I REACHED MY ROLLERBLADES!!!

I held them up in my hands. They were gorgeous! The sun shined through my bedroom window and glistened off the chrome buckles. I slowly ran my finger down the four wheels on the bottom of the blade. The wheels spun fast and smoothly for a long time. The wheels themselves were perfectly shaped. The hard plastic of the boot was so new I could see my reflection in it.

I realized I had purchased the greatest rollerblades ever created. I was so happy I could almost cry. And then something inside me clicked. . .

What am I doing!? I can't wear these outside. If I put these on and skated on them I could possibly scrape the boot. If I damaged them up I might not be able to see my reflection anymore. Then I thought about how the sun glistened off the chrome. What if I scuff up the chrome!? They might not shine anymore! And the wheels, they were perfectly shaped. I knew that if I wore my new skates the wheels would eventually be worn down. After a few skates they might not even spin smoothly anymore.

A fear grew inside me. I loved these new blades but I was afraid. I didn't know why but something was telling me I had to protect them. I took each one and placed it into their plastic. I went to the kitchen and grabbed some tape. I returned to my room and taped the plastic up. I then took each one of the skates in its plastic and put it back in the box. I closed the box and I taped it up. I put a lot of tape on just to be sure the box didn't open up accidentally. After I finished taping the box I put it in my closet. Now I knew my skates would never break. They would never get scraped or scuffed. They would always look brand new! They would always look just like the day I saw them in the store. . .

I can't really say I felt happy. I actually felt pretty sad, but the good thing is that I knew my rollerblades were safe. I mean its better this way. Isn't it?

I walked outside I noticed a cloud was blocking the sun. I looked down the street and noticed a bunch of kids. They were all skating. Some were jumping and spinning. Others were playing street hockey. I know it's not manly but for some reason a tear ran down my cheek. I knew how much fun they were having and that's all I ever wanted. But would it be worth it? Would all that fun and that excitement be worth the risk of ruining my brand new skates.

I don't know why, but I ran back inside!

I tore open my closet and took out the box! I slashed through the tape and opened the cardboard! Then I saw the plastic. It was tough before but I felt a new energy inside me. I grabbed that plastic and put it in my teeth! I used all my strength and ripped a whole in each one! My skates dropped to the floor! I picked them up and noticed a little nick in the boot. I ran my finger over the nick and smiled.

I ran outside and sat on my front steps. I threw off my shoes and put on each skate. I made sure I buckled them tight! They fit perfectly!!!! I stood up and all of sudden the sun broke through the cloud. I felt the rays on my face. I felt alive. And at that exact moment I knew. . .

The fun has only just begun.

It seems every time someone gets hurt they put up a wall. This wall makes it hard for anyone to get close to the person. Some people put up a lot of walls to protect themselves, but these walls don't only protect. These walls also prevent someone from loving and expressing their true feelings and emotions.

So I say, don't be afraid to get hurt again. Don't put up too many walls. Don't let your walls be too thick. It's a risk and if you ask me the risk is worth it.

ehmai Dude, I look at your posting, stories, and your date of joining, it seems that you're ALWAYS on here! what on earth do you do? You're not the site moderator, and you're in the 25-29 years of age range. Do you have a job at the moment? You know it's up to you, but it's kinda a waste writing this long and the story's rating is in the crapper. - 3 months ago

digginme19239 I especially can relate to this story, excellant job! And for the comment by ehmai, how can someone with no activity, and just created that name-that day, know to read all your postings and talk down about it unless it was a fake name created hide someones actual user name to try and put NotSoBad down, and is ignorant to the fact that it wouldn't get picked up on by anyone else. Really now, did you catch that NotSoBad? - 3 months ago
