I would say it's because he still likes you that he's keeping his distance. Just because a relationship is over doesn't mean your heart can handle the friendship yet. Just give him time and let him work that out of his system. If you push too much you could ruin the friendship too.
He's still harboring feelings of resentment, alternatively he just seems distant because he's no longer giving you preferential treatment/ making an effort not to give you preferential treatment.

I have other friends and family for me. I don't need to be all buddy-buddy with someone that probably scorned me.
