Why do girls get nervous when guys compliment what they are wearing or say they look sexy?

It's happened to me so much. I'm out at a club or bar, go up to a nice looking girl, introduce myself and compliment on what she's wearing (what I compliment varies depending on the girl). Sometimes I'll say something looks hot on her.
Immediately after she looks creeped out, that noticing what she wears is weird or doesn't want the attention. Sometimes I've even been called a pig.
Yet we are out at a club, she is single, and I don't believe a girl wants to "look bad" so I know she dresses to look good. So why hate me for complimenting her? This happens so much I stopped complimenting girls but that hasn't changed my luck in dating.

I know some Men may have taken advantage of these girls in the past and that can make them insecure, but complimenting what someone is wearing is never a bad thing, and a Man would NEVER take it badly is a girl said that to him!

I'm not saying I'm god's gift to man but I do fairly decent at clubs when a guy says I look hot in something two things come to my mind... he wants laid or he doesn't have a very big vocabulary. I know this might just be me and personal opinions are always wrong but I feel more complimented when a guy says somethibg to the effect of that dress looks so beautiful on you. Or you look amazing tonight... now these guys still might just want to get laid but it gives it an aura of sophistication. It's not all about what you say though! Body language is a huge key!! We see it in all the movies where he leans in to tell her how hot she's looking. If your not dating do not do that. Don't come into her personal space unless she invites you! But make sure you body language is also showing that you want to know more lean against the ball or the wall if your near one.. if your not please lord do not cross your arms cuz that's closing your body off and making you look defensive or to some people intimidating.

I've done the nice compliment plenty of times and they still reject me. I've leaned in only because it was a club and she couldn't hear me unless I was close. I do not fold my arms.

Invading space seems strange, same with assuming guys want to get in your pants. Women think about sex and as long as guys don't constantly push sex complimenting shouldn't equal I want sex tonight. Women do get paranoid too easily nowadays

Honestly, because we get hit on a lot at clubs, sometimes. Im no prize pig, but even i hear it and it just sounds like he's trying to get my number or have sex. I know it's wrong to assume this, but men who have been drinking, dry humping other chicks and called it "dancing", staring at my ass as I walked by or even looking at my tits as they say I look "hot" don't come across as the types of men or attention I particularly like. So I'll say thank you, but I'll also let my body language know that I'm not interested. And if they don't get it, then I'll be direct and tell them to leave me alone.

I don't like most people lol But the ratio of men who try to ask me out to women is far more men. Don't worry, I reject women too, the occasional lesbian here and there ;)

I typically dont go to clubs unless my bffs force me to go. I dance with my female friends at clubs.

I rather no guy say anything to try to make me "interested" in him. Because I'm just not interested in the majority of men.

It may be the delivery. There is a right moment, tone and way to compliment. Make sure your getting it right. I would suggest reading there body language before making an approach and being honest about it. We can tell when the compliment has other intentions.

You might have complemented the wrong person. No insight, no manners, no brains. Just because the package comes nicely wrapped doesn't mean the pieces inside are placed correctly. Just keep at it. Not all girls can't handle a complement.

really, to much effort to start a conversation first? trust me, we know we look good, we know our dresses are short and our cleavage is on display. could probably go home with any thirsty dude in the club but we are supposed to go all weak at the knees over a conversation about how good we look. step your game up...

Is it too much effort for a girl to go up a guy she likes? If you look at it from a Mans point of view women are way too shy to not talk first, using boobs as a crutch as to why men need to approach them. No, I can start a conversation, I wasn't agreeing with complimenting a girls sense of humor I just met, I barely know her, let alone her humor.

Mabye a girl can go home with any thirsty guy, but then she looks desperate or slutty and not all Men find that positive, myself included. Those thirsty men with the good looks you sleep with probably have other girlfriends on the side and use you and you fall for it.
I may not be the best looking, but when I give a compliment I mean it, whether it's about your clothes or your face, you shouldn't be picky about compliments that shows you think your entitled, and you wouldn't be no matter how good you look.

Let's just say women should stop judging men by looks as well, most down to earth men that are loyal are average or below average lookin

I agree. Females generally wear things to look good whether its for men or for women to envy them. Females that downplay your compliment really like the fact that you are showing them attention.

You have to realize that at a club it gets said to you about 50 times. It doesn't feel like a compliment, it's a line and I usually just say thankyou then try to get away... but when I go to a club it's to hang and dance with my friends not to meet dudes.

Going by one comment on my intentions is dumb and that's how society has changed over the years girls are too paranoid. If I wanted to get in her pants I would continue to push the issue. The trouble is women don't let me get far enough to see that wasn't my intention.
Also don't tell me women never want sex, they dress nice to meet guys, and eventually sex will come. So it makes no sense.

Depending on the girl, she wouldn't want to have casual sex, she just wants to look nice going out. - Many girls dress nice to impress each other and not particularly the guys. (not in a lesbian way, more like a contest)

Now I no nothing about your looks or anything, so bear in mind this is not personal.
But if a hot guy (or attractive or whatever she is into) comes up to a girl, he will more often get a positive response than when an unattractive guy goes up to hit on her.

That's just as true as guys will mostly hit on the hot girls, unless all the hot ones are taken, it's getting late and they really want some sex.

I'm average at best, I know exactly about good looking guys getting girls easily I see it and I'm jealous because I get rejected and those hot guys cheat often too.

I've approached hot girls and average ones, definition of "hot" varies for each guys preference.

So girls saw me as an ugly, desperate guy I guess. I don't know how I can change that if I never did anything wrong to begin with.

Maybe you shouldn't try to find a girl at clubs. Mostly hot attractive people or those with the right confidence and game get anything out from it.

If you have a great personality or charm, go for a place where you can use that.

sometimes women think you're just into her body or appearance when the first thing you compliment is is exactly that. tell her she has nice eyes.. or tell her she looks beautiful (you know.. something respectable)

Try maybe switching your aporoach. It sounds dumb but try saying hi and making small talk. Ie about music, drinks whatever. The attraction is implied and not necessary to comment. Plus women are leary of the pump and dump crowd.
