Why does he look away while kissing?

We were kissing at his workplace (he's a bartender). The bar was already closed, and no one was there. But when I opened my eyes, I saw him looking away. I asked him what was going on, he just said that he didn't want his boss to see us. Is he telling the truth or is he just playing... I don't know what to think anymore :(
