Something probably came up that prevented him from coming over, that was a good enough reason to him but he is probably afraid that it's not a good enough reason for you.
So, maybe a friend came over and they chatted and lost track of time, or he wasn't feeling well and didn't feel like coming over and napped instead, things like that... who knows? It could be a number of things.
Just ask him to be honest with you.

Sometimes things come up- that's life. But if he cares about you and values your relationship, he shluld be more than willing to offer an honest explanation for why he didn't show up. The fact that he isn't is a red flag. Have a serious talk with him about it, and if he won't be open, consider whether or not the relationship is healthy and worth staying in.
I don't think you should dump him because he stood you up, If you keep thinking like that start breaking up with boyfriends for little things like that your going to have a long list of EXs, Just wait for him to meet up again, if the cycle continues then yeah you can dump him
If by leave him alone you mean dump him, yes. A man is only is good as his word. If you say you are going to be somewhere you should be there, and if you can't make it there needs to be a much better explanation that some cryptic bullsh*t like "you wouldn't understand".
