Why do girls cross their arms a lot?

I've noticed this more and more lately, but whenever I see girls sitting down or standing around, a lot of them have their arms folded in front of them. I know that crossing your arms in front is a sign of either insecurity/uncertainty/discomfort with the situation or disapproval, but this doesn't really fit a lot of the situations I've observed.

Is there something else that might cause this behavior, perhaps maybe it's an instinctual behavior? Or maybe it's just as simple as insecurity/uncertainty/lack of comfort in a situation.

Thoughts? Can any girls give me some insight on this?

It's just comfortable. I stand that way fairly often just because that's how I feel comfortable. I like to have my arms resting on something, so I'll usually stand or sit with my arms folded if there's nothing to rest them on. Or if I don't want to give off bad body language signals then I'll try to loop my thumbs in my pockets or something. It is often a sign of insecurity or discomfort, but not always.

I usually cross my arms if my clothes are tight. You always look "fatter" when you sit down, so I usually make a "cross" when I sit down.

As to when I stand up. I cross my arms when I feel defensive, cold or sometimes it's just more comfortable, because I don't know where to put my arms.

I think it definitely has to do with whether the girl is open enough to the situation. I know personally, if I don't want to talk to someone and feel obligated to talk to them I cross my arms. She could also be cold lol.

It's jsut really comfortable for me to cross my arms, I find. It's relaxing my arms support themselves, and they're folded which is nice, crossing them just happens to be they way they feel most comfortable.

Body lanuage, That's what you should try to look at. a lot of times people will do this and not realize what they are doing. From what I've been told, Is when you are talking to someone and they cross there arms. It usually means they are not at ease with with you.'' Putting up a wall''. So if your out on a date and she keeps doing this. Along with not making eye contact. It's most likley not a good sign...p.s. she could also be cold...l.o.l.

I do this a lot without thinking about how it looks because I get really cold easily. When I'm in class especially, I'll cross my arms over my torso to keep me warm.

I keep my arms crossed a lot because it's comfortable. I think some of the body language stuff is read into much too deeply.

I do it out of habbit that and I do it to cover my breasts from view as they are rather distracting to some...

Depends. I find it comfortable. But if I'm around people idk, then I feel awkward and I don't know what to do with my hands, so I'll cross my arms.

Just for comfort, there's not really any other big reason for it.

I never know where to put my arms and I don't like them hanging because it feels weird. Also, when we are uncertain/insecure like you said. I also cross my arms sometimes if I feel chubby on my stomach but that's just me probably
