Hello :) . I'm in the exact same situation as you are... And, yeah, I hate it and I've been trying to think on how to change it for a while (it is working!), so I might be able to help you...
When I like some subject, I get high results. When I like a teacher, I get high results. When I want to prove wrong a teacher who thinks I'm stupid, I get super high results. But... other than that, I really just go to classes and get a minimum 14 out of 20 (my grades work like this: 0 = horrible; 20 = perfect. You can only get 20 at Math, as it is an exact science. The system is terrible...).
But I'm the best student in my class, even though I get lousy grades (14, 15, 16, 17? that s#cks..). I know I can do better. I know I can get an easy 19 at Portuguese, History, Phil, Literature, etc... But I just can't if there is nothing to be proven!
Still, there is a solution. And is working for me just fine, I got an 18 at Phil this week...
You know you can do it, right? You know you can do better... And maybe some teachers or colleagues recognize your amazing abilities... But... The truth is: that's not enough, if there is no awesome result proving it. And, as time passes, just vaguely knowing what you learn in class will stop to be enough to most people (99,9% of them) .
The solution that I mentioned... It will vary, according to your will/ personality/ abilities/ likes and dislikes:
* hit the books with your forehead if that'll work for you.
* stop skipping classes if that's what is keeping you from getting good scores (this worked for me);
* pay attention to classes if that'll be enough for you.
* write resumes for all your subjects and sell them to your colleagues if that'll make you write them and learn what you're reviewing (I'll have to try this one day...)
But, mainly, the solution to your problem is: just do something! Change your attitude, as you're clearly not happy with how things have been happening...
You sound like someone who never studied in her life, and you don't know what to do or where to start to get awesome results. My advise is: start anywhere, and if that doesn't work, try another thing. It can't go wrong, because your grades won't get lower (you'll be studying, so your grades will only get better), and you just have to try all the systems, to know which will give you the better rewards, faster, easier and with less work.
Soon you'll be in college, right? So you do need to learn how to study.
The idea s#cks, and doing something WILL s#ck as well - get prepared! You'll feel like you have to be stupid if you have the need to grab your books... But that's just not true: you're worried about your future and you're thinking ahead - that only shows your NOT stupid!
Turn studying an habit, with time it'll be easier. Make sure your grades are a source of pride to you. Make sure that getting good grades is something you're doing for yourself - because that's the only way yo take it seriously, and get it done the right way.

I'm the same way... I made C's all through school, but I got a 27 on the ACT (which is really good, if you don't know). Here are some tips I've found helpful:
1. Figure out what time of day you are at your most productive and your least productive. For example, I learned that my most productive time is in the morning around 10, and my least productive time is around 4-9pm. My mind checks out around dinnertime haha.
2. Get SLEEP! Sounds like a no brainer but it really helps. It's much easier to listen and take notes in class if you are awake and alert. I had an 8:30am sociology class in college which lasted till 9:45... an early class that lasts a long time was not a good combination with my ADD haha. It was miserable for the first few classes because I always stayed up till 1am the night before. I soon learned that I took MUCH better notes when I went to bed at 10 or 11 the night before.
3. Manage your time. This is the hard one. You need to prioritize your things to do. What really helps is to make up a schedule and stick to it. If you say to get off Facebook or turn off the TV at 4pm, then do exactly that.
Hope I helped!
Start small and go big. Make small goals for your self about starting work ahead of time. Even if you only spend 15 minutes working at it.
Than try for 30 the next day or something
and write them down so they are in front of you and they will remind you what to do if you keep seeing them
Best tip: Realize that if you can't do the job, someone else is willing to do it and get paid less. When you've got competition, the person doling out the reward (be it a job, a scholarship, or anything else), is going to use WHAT EVER they can to weed out people and make their selection go faster.
i got a 78 in AP calculus B/C... fml right?
but seriously, I know how you are, I'm apparently really f***ing smart, but I'm also really lazy lol.. I do pretty good in school but I could do way better.. just can't be bothered.. rather play battlefield than do homework
