Why would a guy avoid up close eye contact??

This guy made direct eye contact with me last year for about a minute. his head was turned toward me when he was walking in another direction. he was just staring, no expression nothing. I looked away after a while because I didn't know what to do or think.

He is in one my classes this semester. Has made eye contact with me in the hallways (briefly). He stood next to me once in the hall & I turned to him but then he sort of jumped and was looking at some poster. He was also teasing me during presentations in class (almost poking fun at me about my hair, what I have talked about outside of class-I am sure he has listened in to a few of my conversations and used irrelevent stuff my friend and I have talked about in presentations for class) but he seemed to be making fun of a guy I was sitting with in class-I think the guy picked up on it..

I noticed today when I had to give him something in class he avoided eye contact with me when I went up to him today? he was just looking straight ahead. I thought he may have liked me but not so sure now. What does this avoiding eye contact mean?

his friend whome I have another class with has asked me twice what classes I am taking & brought him those 2 times saying he's a nice guy & you will make a good friend.

He likes you he's just scared and kind of a dork by staring at you like that. That is a social faux paux. He probably found out that it was a no no and went hard about. He's playing hard to get, hoping that it will pique your interest. He doesn't think he's that appealing to you and he's thinking he's going to have to work at it if you two are going to be together. If you like him, make him comfortable around you and he will do the same for you. If you don't like him that way, tell him so. Men are TERRIBLE, "I can't emphasize this enough", TERRIBLE, with subtle clues and reading between the lines. Subtlety and men go together like Stale Beer and Ice Cream.

You mention a lot of indirect ways he tries to get your attention and it sounds like he's trying to get something to happen without taking any real risks. Confident looking doesn't mean confident (or even experienced).

If you want something to happen, you're going to have to ask him. Don't be too direct in the way you mention it. Say something like: "We should get a cup of coffee some time. I want to know how you came up with the idea for your presentation."

This will allow him to accept without feeling intimidated and set a time, get your number, etc.

Yeah, I didn't think much about the eye contact till he started mentioning stuff in his presentation like nintendo, perfume, hair sticking up and then his friend asked me about his class twice. the guy that I would sit with would start talking really loud about his girlfriend whenever he came by

aw. you make him nervous! you know when you get so extremely nervous around someone you can't even make eye contact with him, he may be a confident guy. but when it comes to girls he a typical shy guy, if you want to get closer to him, be very open, welcoming smile a lot at him and if that doesn't work just bluntly say why don't you ever look at me! if he likes you enough he will try to make more eye contact with you. just start more conversations with him. eventually he will become comfortable enough!

On the contrary to the last comment, I believe that you are paying attention to the right things, like the eye contact. The paper thing was a perfect excuse for him to look at you straight into your eyes and smile at you and maybe even drop in a line.

keep a look out for these minimal movements, "guys think about every move they make while they know they're being watched by the girl they like" because they don't want to do anything stupid, so the eye thing that he did, he might have done because he likes you a lot and doesn't want to make it too obvious, he doesn't want to become vulnerable to you. Cause he hasn't asked you out.

If this behavior persists, and you feel like you've had enough, confront him about it, and let it out of your system. :) my 2 cents

Yeah, the first eye contact was weird but I can brush stuff off like that. what I really noticed was that we would indirectly make fun of me in these presentations is what really made me think. When I handed him the paper he just looked up to the rest of the class.it was odd because I would see a glance here and there and directly in front of him, just avoided it.

Who cares. You're attempting to analyze something that is almost useless. There could be a million reasons for what he did. You have one instance of him doing something that didn't fit perfectly in your image of him, it's not a big deal. Ask this question again when you've gotten a lot more information on him and about what he's doing, because right now all I see is a guy who flirts with you, and then one time didn't look you in the eyes when you gave him some work.

He was standing right beside once outside of class. I turned to him and he turned away and started making a big deal out of this flyer on the other side of him and then this other girl started talking to him.

I think he's still into you, but he is just trying to play you off. He stares alot, and he may think you think it's creeping you out, so he is trying to stop, or you're making him nervous.
