Is 100lbs considered underweight?

I'm just at 5'2 so pretty short but I don't think I look underweight (See avatar photo) I have been known to be smaller at around 96-97lbs.

I horse ride/race so I have to monitor my weight which can be really tough and I'm conscious that my weight seems too small. I never know whether BMI calculators are that helpful seeing as there are lots of things they don't take into account.

No, you are naturally petite and slender, and that weight is fine for your height. A girl who had a different bone structure and build might look too thin at the same weight and height, because genetically she should be heavier and curvier, but it works for you and how you are built.

And that's why you can't rely too much on BMI charts - they're only an average, and don't account well for normal genetic variations.

That made a lot of sense actually, you forget to think about your bone structure in comparison to someone else the same height/weight. Thank you! :-)

As an extreme example, look at Kim Kardashian. She's like 5'3", but she's SUPER curvy (big boobs and big butt, but small waist), and she probably weighs 140-150. That doesn't make her fat - she isn't, but she's got bigger bone structure and is genetically extremely curvy. She would blow out the other end of the BMI scale compared to you, but like you, there's nothing wrong with her.

BMI is only an average, and a guideline. You have to use your own brain and eyes (and measuring tape and scale) to see if it makes sense for YOU, and if it doesn't, you have to adjust accordingly.

In this case no it's not underweight for sure :) doesn't look that way :D

If you calculate your vmi, it will say that you are slightly underweight but you look healthy :)
