Why does everyone make a big deal about being super fit and skinny nowadays?

Well, there's a large middle ground between "super fit and skinny" and "unhealthily overweight", those aren't the only two options. But it's probably partly because the current unprecedented obesity epidemic is a major health crisis - in the US alone obesity kills over 100,000 people per year and the WHO estimates that obesity kills 3.4 million people globally each year. Obesity contributes to over 40% of cases of diabetes, and also increases the risk of cancer, heart disease, depression, stroke, and many other health problems.

Not everyone does that. What you're referring to maybe because the other side is defending their body. It may feel common now because thin or athletic is a minority.

Because nobody does real work any more. They sit on their asses all day. To compensate for not having a naturally shaped body they fake it by working out.

100 years ago the obesity rate was under 10%, now it's over 70%, it's impossible that 70% of people don't have "naturally shaped bodies". The problem is that most people don't eat right, in particular, the government's official dietary advice is to follow a high-carb diet which science tells us is fattening.

It's also not possible that in 100 years we went from less than 10% of people being "lazy" to over 70% of people being "lazy". I think one of the causes of people 'sitting on their asses all day' is incorrect diet. The causality is like this: People eat a high carb diet, the pancreas secretes insulin in response, insulin tells the body's cells to store energy as fat instead of mobilizing blood glucose and stored fat to metabolize and consume. Your brain tells your body to get your ass off the couch, but because the cells are now in 'store fat' mode, your cells lack the energy to get your ass off the couch, and you experience this as feeling lazy.

I stay thin with almost no exercise by following a science-based diet (I used to be overweight a few years ago, but am now able to control precisely whether I'm gaining or losing, even without exercise).

Each individual is genetically different, sure, but I think it's mostly a myth that we need to do 'a lot of exercise' to stay thin. The reason we have to do 'a lot of exercise' is to continually burn off the fat we shouldn't be putting on in the first place, because of all the carbs we're being advised to shove down our throats in the so-called 'balanced' diet.
