Whether people need to gain or lose weight, trying to focus on a specific number isn't the right way to do it. You want to figure out what makes up a healthy lifestyle and the rest will take care of itself. This is of course different for everyone and depends on where you live, what type of activities/exercise options you have access to, food options, etc.

Gaining weight doesn't have to necessarily mean gaining it as fat. Since you want to oblige their request without losing your flat stomach, just make sure to work more exercise into your routine. Put a big part of the focus on toning your core area like leg-lifts, planking, sit-ups, etc..

Good you mentioned the 10 pounds less - thing, because I was like What.. WHY? XD
I'd eat more, eat more throughout the day, 5 to 6 meals. And you work out a bit. You won't get 'fat' and gain muscle :)The profile pic looks great and 10 pounds would not seem to make much difference. I am surprised you are being advised to gain weight.
The real question here is if you like yourself more like this or +10 pounds. Then you'll have your answer.
I'm assuming you want it to be muscle. Get a diet plan set up and work out.
