Do you consider fish to be meat?

I ask this because of the whole Catholic thing and lent and not being able to eat meat on... Friday? I forget the exact rule or whatever. I never understood this. My friend (who claims to be Catholic, although he drinks a ton) does lent, and I've gotten into debates with him about how fish is meat. I don't see how it couldn't be? Fish are animals, so... it's meat.

I think eating seafood is allowed for Catholics and vegetarians just because they want to eat meat, but be in denial of it.

The Catholic Church decided fish wasn't meant because fishermen weren't doing well as a business and this was a way to increase profits in fish markets. Its flesh and bone and it's all meat. Just the church screwing with people's lives as usual. Fish not being meat? Seriously that's absurd.

It's in the meat food group of course it's meat vegetarians tend to be against animal abuse and their rights and how it's not right to kill a living thing to make food last time I checked fish have brains and a heart and all that so how you could consider fish to be OK is beyond me

according to christian websites its because they refuse to eat meat from mammals to remember Christ who was also a mammal (as all humans are), by that logic though surely lizards are fair game too on good Friday ;)

It came about for economic reasons.The fisherman weren't making much of a living at one time,so the Pope said no meat on Friday but fish is OK.

Fish and chicken are not considered meat. You need to do some research but fish has always been fish and meat is normally red and has much to do with hoofs, toes. Similar pigs are classified differently due to their hoofs and poison abatement systems.

I think if a vegetarian ate fish it would be breaking it and you shouldn't call yourself a vegetarian if you do.

they're still flesh. meat is the muscle and fat of an animal. the flesh of fish, cows, chicken, goats, buffalos, etc. are all still meat.
