In 1981 she started as a systems engineer at IBM, from there Rometty showed her business acumen, insights and leadership capacity, and then established herself as the first female to be the head of the company. IBM faced a 5% decline in revenue in 2013, so she earned respect from media and colleagues when she announced that she’d not be taking her annual bonus. She puts her money where her mouth is.

She is the CEO/president of the world’s second-largest tech company, Hewlett-Packard (HP). Graduating from Princeton University and Harvard Business School, Meg Whitman is a great success who is humble. For the past three years Whitman has earned only a $1 salary. Before HP, she served as CEO of eBay for ten years and was a director of Zipcar & P&G. She also has been involved in politics when in In 2010, she ran for governor of California. She ultimately conceded the election to her opponent, she set the record of spending the most of her own money than any other self-funded political candidate.

Marissa Mayer had been 13 years at Google, when she became the CEO of Yahoo! in July 2012. Her nick-name in Silicon Valley was ‘spender-in-chief’, since she spent so much, she led Yahoo! to acquire Tumblr in a 1.1 billion dollar acquisition in 2013. She’s improving site’s media presence, hiring high profile journalist Katie Couric, and announcing plans to create new original programming.
