5 steps to success

We all have some goals in life, whether they're big or small: learning a new language, acing that test, getting the guy/girl of our dreams or climbing the ladder of a career.

Whatever it is, it's important to us to at least try it but it wouldn't be the worst thing if we'd succed in it. With a little effort, okay a bit much effort, and with these steps you can success at getting to the finish line of your goal. Which leads us to the first step:

1. Set your goal(s)

5 steps to success

The first and most important step on the path of success is setting a goal. You must focus on it and set a realistic deadline to it, depending on what's your goal for example if you want to get a B on that math test and the test is due in four days, set your deadline to at least one day before it and make sure you've studied properly.

2. Think about the steps you need to take in order to succed

No goal is complete without planning the steps which will lead you to it. For example, if you want to become professional singer your first step would be to practice singing at home, the second one would be joining a quoir (any quoir- at school, church...) etc. You need to have a clear picture of what you want and concentrate on it and plan what you should do about it. It's easier if you write down the steps so you could tick off each one once you've completed them.

3. Be realistic about it

It's alright to be confident about accomplishing your goal but you need to understand that it may take more than one shot in order to achieve success. Don't be pessimistic about it either- it'll just lower your chance of success because you'll keep asking yourself what's the point of trying if you know you're going to fail anyway. You don't know that unless you can predict the future (which I'm pretty sure you can't). Realize that you're trying your hardest and that you may or may not fail and if you do fail, you can always try again and again until you've ticked off that last step on your list.

4. Recognize what you're doing right and what you're doing wrong

If you're sticking to your steps and you keep failing then you may be doing something wrong. Sit down and take a moment to think about what you're doing wrong. Think about yourself from a objective perspective. If you're unable to recognize your faults then ask someone else to do it- ask a family member or a friend only if you think they're able to be objective and give you constructive criticism otherwise it's best to ask a stranger because that stranger might be able to point you in the right direction. Once you've found your error, work on fixing it and think about what you need to do in order not to repeat it next time. Turn that wrong into right.

5. Be patient

Whatever you want to accomplish it requiers a certain amount of time and you need to understand if your goal is particularty big, say you want to become a CEO of a company, it's going to take time and patience before you reach to the top. It can't just happen overnight. Stick to your goals, be persistent about it and let time do the trick. It might take years and years of hard work but think about how it's good it's going to feel once you've reached the top. But also keep your feet on the ground and don't think but climb your way to the top.

And in the end it's important that you never give up, no matter how many obstacles or set backs you bump into. Because your dream is worth it.

What Guys Said 3

  • The problem here is that step 1 is actually step 10, building criteria for a goal and actually being able to set it is it's own little thing. Getting past the goal stage is a whole new can of worms.

  • This is a good take except the never give up part. Always think before you bet your life on something. Do not risk your life on some macho 'I'm not a quiter' mentality and die like a failure. It is simple but excedingly hard to do. Everyone can have a goal and a bit of thinking is all that is needed for a plan. Whether the plan is realistic or even possible is a whole different ball game all together.

Most people can not see that there are certain things they can not do no matter how hard they try. People refuse to give up and keep trying on things that they couldn't get. There is always time to do it again, is what all of them try to think. Then one day they noticed that every time they try, a piece of their life is lost forever. A baseball player getting stuck in the minors should quit when he has the chance. If he keeps sticking to that dream and couldn't get it by his 30s then his future will be pretty dark.

Work with what you have, not what you wish for. Take one step at a time. Change your plan the moment it no longer works.

    • True but it all depends on what's their goal and the given circumstances.

    • It is true but quitting must always be an option. In fact it must always exist from the moment you start planning all the way into the final steps of success. You have everything from Murphy to traps and random stuff that will throw everything out the window.

Be prepared to give up and walk away. It's a miserable thing when one day you realize that you destroyed all your chances and drove everyone you cared about away because you couldn't quit trying.

    • I think you nailed it down really well.

  • Great my take!! :D

  • You're great. I already knew all of it, but we always have to remember. I have an uncommon goal, to become a millionaire by trading and I'm mathematically sure that I will do it.
