Every Day Should Be Valentine's Day

Every year after Christmas and New Year's, stores are quick to overun their aisles with cheap chocolates, roses, and little teddy bears, because that is what you're supposed to do on Valentine's Day. You're supposed to get your special someone something just because it's that time of year, right?

Wrong.

Every Day Should Be Valentine's Day

Companies try their best to commercialize Valentine's Day. Chocolates are flying off the shelves, Restaurants are filled, and the prices of roses go up. People, especially men, are pressured somehow to show their love by buying something or doing something special for their significant other, like all their love is supposed to be in that one box of chocolate or diamond ring.

You cannot buy romance. Romance is not shown by the money you spend, and it is certainly not shown by a cheap card, or a teddy bear.

Romance comes from within. It is how you make that person feel. It's how you touch them, talk to them, think about them. It is an ever-lasting connection between two people that should not be reserved for one day out of the entire year.

Every Day Should Be Valentine's Day

If you wait for one day out of the entire year to do something special for your special someone, you are missing the entire point of a relationship.

Of course, Valentine's Day is a nice excuse for us to go over the top by showering our partners with gifts and affection, but any sort of planned out gesture can lose its luster when it is expected every year. Being spontaneous with a gesture can be much more significant, rather than just doing it just because everyone else is.

If you want to show that special someone that you care about them, cook dinner for him on Monday night, come home with a bouquet of flowers after work for her on a Wednesday, get dressed and go out for dinner on a Sunday. Do it because you love them and want them to feel special, not because it's Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day should not be the only reason for doing something special, as if you love someone, it should be another day to make them feel loved. Valentine's Day is not the only day of love when you are in a successful relationship.

When you are in a happy, healthy relationship – it always feels like Valentine's Day.
