Anyone else think the concept of romantic love is overrated?

What do you mean by romantic love? Everyone has a different understanding of this. I think in a relationship, both people should be able to give and take. Both should be able to listen to the other person's problems, be empathic, and caring. Both should really watch out for each other and complete each other. This is romantic. Maybe.

I'm on the fence about it. But I'm currently in a queerplatonic relationship. A queerplatonic relationship is a relationship that is not romantic but involves a close emotional connection beyond what most people consider friendship. And so far, it's the best relationship I've been in. :)

A bit, because some people think they can't be happy without a romantic relationship. Such is not the case. But we all do have needs and one of those needs is to be emotionally and/or sexually connected with someone. We put too much weight on it sometimes, but it is necessary.

I think it's overrated. I don't even think it's necessary. I think it's nice when it happens but it would be a lot better if it wasn't forced as often as it is.

Honestly I think your reasoning is why half of marriages fail. Even though divorce is acceptable now, I think society still pressures people to get married at least once and not stay in the dating realm for too many years while childless (even though it works better that way).

Love is the single most powerful thing I have ever felt. I understand that it can have dramatic effects on people, and it's devastating when it isn't returned, but it's all definitely worth it.

People always tell me I just haven't found the right person, but to be honest I hope I never do. I've seen love do horrible things to both men and women, and with the divorce rate so high its clear it doesn't last.

I would mark you as BA, you I don't wan to be bias. However, I disagree on the marriage thing. Having a date and having a spouse is completely different. I think most of the divorced probably didn't understand how marraige was going to effect things. I think the divorce would have always been high since the begining of time if divorce was as easy to get like now, but that doesn't mean marraige doesn't work. My parents have been together for 17 years.
