Please help me settle an argument with my boyfriend.
He never lets me play Beyonce in the car because he really dislikes her music, and I argued that the passenger is in charge of the stereo, but he says the driver is because they are the ones responsible for safety, thus they get to choose the music, and additionally that it's his car anyway so it's a moot point.
The driver controls whatever is playing. My dad and older sister always enforced that when I was a kid when they drove. It is funny when I drive now because they can’t say anything when I pick what’s playing 😂 On the same token you shouldn’t intentionally play things you know the other person hates
Whoever owns the car. I think if you’re having serious arguments over silly stuff could be a bad or good thing. Either you just can’t get along or there just isn’t much else to fight over.
Honestly, if you would drive your own car you wouldn’t have to complain. He really doesn’t have to drive you anywhere to be completely honest. At the same time if you’re willing to tolerate music you aren’t a big fan of and he isn’t thaf could be a problem.
Driver is always the one that has the last say because they are the ones who are driving. If you like calming relaxing music and are the passenger that is fine but that could very well put the driver to sleep. And since the driver is responsible for getting everyone from point a to point b safely. They get to pick the music. It is either the driver or a joined pick. Something you both like.

Especially with long distances? I get to decide what music I want to listen to keep me awake, entertained, groovy, and engaged. It’s NICE when someone lets you control the music when THEYRE the ones driving… But it’s the drivers choice

If I'm the driver, I concentrate on driving, and let the passenger control the stereo, with the tacit understanding that I have veto power if needed.

I had an old friend who like to prop his bare feet up on my dashboard on long rides. That pissed me off because he didn’t even ask and it was my car. I am usually pretty easy going but I spoke up about that.
In my car I control the stereo, there is absolutely no way Beyonce would ever touch my stereo, ew. I'm responsible for everyone's safety in my car, if someone chose to play something that pisses me off, and Beyonce would piss me off, I'm more prone to making mistakes... Sorry the driver controls the stereo, and I'm glad that the votes agree with me.

The driver is generally the one who pays for everything for the car, so the driver should be the one to control the radio unless they offer you the aux. Plus certain songs can be distracting to the driver which isn’t good.
Always the driver. His car, his tunes, his control. Unless he gives control to someone else or lets them connect, then it should always be the driver doing it. Same thing with the air conditioning.

me and my partner literally have a spotify playlist we update with music we enjoy so we can just put that on.

Lol wear headphones and use your phone if you don't like his shitty music. They can either make the ride boring since you aren't conversing or give you what you want. But either way you win.
His car his choice … simple. I chose to let others control sometimes on long drives via SharePlay on apple / apple CarPlay but I reserve the right always to skip the track
Maybe if you played good music for a change, he might let you control the stereo more often. But subjecting him to Beyonce is just mean spirited of you, so I don't blame him at all.
To your specific question, the operator of the car has all of the responsibilities AND rights while driving. They may delegate some of those responsibilities/rights if they choose, but that is their prerogative.
The driver, who may delegate the task to someone else in the car under their direct supervision and direction. Usually this person is offered their preferred seat in the car.
I mean it's each to their own with music likes and dislikes. But out of respect for your partner wouldn't you just turn off the music. I know with me i can't drive with any radio trash playing like ariana grande, justin beiber etc. it literally hurts my ears

That Beyonce would be punched out immediately. Spartan is the captain of the ship which includes music choice and where we go eat.
I think the driver should have the final say, seeing as he or she is the one who has to concentrate on what is happening on the roads!
