I don't hate dogs, but I HATE most dog owners?

If you call your pet your "Fur baby" i hate you
if you value human wants/needs less than animal wants/needs I hate you.
if you think it's acceptable to not pick up after your dog, I hate you
if you think people who don't like dogs or don't want to own dogs are somehow "less nice..compassionate...worthy..fill in the blank" than dog owners, I hate you
if you don't train your dog and let it jump on other people, bum-rush other people, bark aggressively at other people, steal other people's food, etc., I hate you
if you are offended that I don't like your poorly behaved dog, I hate you.

It seems like dog owners have gotten kind of crazy because people now view pets as EQUAL to other humans (or higher than other humans). It's baffling. It's entitled, selfish, and unreasonable. Does anyone else feel this way?

Loving an animal, unless physically, isn't such a bad thing. Being a lazy or bad owner is an ok reason to dislike them, maybe not as furiously as you do but it's at least understandable. My dog is a little excitable and wants affection but is overall fairly obedient and I don't let him take other people's food without permission and I always pick up after him.

I value my dog more than many people as my dog was one of the key things that stopped me committing suicide. Pets do amazing things for someone's mental health and dogs in particular are almost medicinal for many people. The unconditional love, the affection when you feel alone, the forcing you to have a routine and go out and leave your bed, such things can make a dog's worth be more than selfish people.

Many humans are worth less than many animals out ther. Greedy selfish cold hateful people who are uncaring and low intelligence while there are animals who have saved lives and protect people and comfort people.

i'm not denying that pets can be a huge part of someone's life. it crosses the line with me though if my future life partner chose the dog over our children with severe allergies to it, or the dog over the safety of our children if the dog became territorial, or the dog over moving in with your significant other because then the dog wouldn't be allowed to sleep in the bed with you anymore.

If someone has had the dog for many years it will be hard to give them up so trying every option first is understandable, I'd only give my dog up if he was a serious risk to someone I love. If violent behaviour started I'd try to break the habits, then neuter if continues and finally if even professional help doesn't work look at rehousing. The bed issue would be something I'd have to discuss and negotiate, much like anything in a relationship, but if I was giving up something I'd expect leverage from it on an issue I'm unhappy with. People who are extreme in anything are not exactly easy for anyone to get on with be it an obsession or opinion.

so if your partner didn't want to sleep in the bed with dog hair, pet dander, and the dog itself, you'd use that as leverage against them later to get something you want if you conceded so that your partner could get a good night's sleep?

Relationships are give and take so if I'm giving something up she'll have less ground to reject my wish with something else. One unliked habit given up by each I'd say is fair. Regular changing of the bed and even giving it a quick vacuum helps keep it clean and you can adapt to sleeping with the dog in bed if you train it to be less on your side if dislike it in your way.

getting a good night's sleep is hardly something a partner should have to compromise over in my opinion. using that to get something you want later would NOT fly in any of my relationships. "i let you get a good night sleep so now you have to _____" yeah right.

If you're such a light sleeper you'd wake up from me anyway much less my dog so you'd have to adjust regardless. My dog stays mostly on my side when my partner is over, I had to encourage him to at the start but now he is used to cuddling up more with me. I sacrifice sleeping so comfy as with my girlfriend in bed I cannot put the pillows how I like them so I don't sleep quite as easily, that's what a relationship is though. Maybe look at getting a bigger bed for more space?

i tried sleeping with both my ex and his dog. the dog stayed on my ex's side. the ex would slowly move over throughout the night and i would end up on the floor. it got to the point where the dog would sleep in the bed with the dog and I'd sleep on the couch. I dumped his ass so fast.

My girlfriend tries to sleep in the middle of my bed so I end up with barely enough duvet and almost hanging off the edge even if my dog is in his bed. I dread to think how it will be when move in together and have her dog as well as mine in the bed while she sleeps in the bloody middle. I compromise some of my comfort for hers, she sometimes has to compromise for me on things. If you're not willing to try and find middle ground it's best you don't see that person.

i am unwilling to compromise on sleep. I can sleep in a bed with a person, but if they're so disruptive (because of a dog) that I can't even stay in the bed throughout the night, then they're selfish for not making a change (my needs over the dogs routine).

how would i be disturbing him? what compromise would he want? in my situation, i wanted to dog OUT of the bed so that he would stop migrating over to my side. when the dog wasn't in the bed, we slept just fine. he said "it wouldn't be fair to the dog" and i dumped that selfish prick for putting the dog first.

I agree with the dog training and many small dog owners are nuts (look at Hollywood). I have to add cat owners are just as bad if not worse. Litter boxes in the house, the stink. Letting them on counters where you put food, I mean come on the cat just dug in its own poop then hops on the counter top gross. But you can also say having this opinion is selfish, and unreasonable

I agree, but fortunately the cats stay in the houses, and i just don't go there! dog people get out and about and right in your face.

sure, but I post on a forum where people can agree, disagree, ignore me, and never talk tome again. dog people are a daily annoyance that you can't escape. (at least anywhere in the US that i've lived).

People have gone a bit nuts over their dogs but I for one would much rather people be that way than treat animals poorly. You want a good judge of someone's character, don't look at how they treat their equals, look at how they treat those below them.

All 3 of our dogs are well behaved and are all rescue dogs so have all had behaviour problems than have needed rectifying and 2 are fully grown male bullmastiffs so it wasn't easy. The problem with a dog's behaviour is the owner not the dog so in that respect you're quite right to have the issue with the dog owner. Having said that all 3 dogs are part of our family and we adore them, they give me at least more comfort and love than a lot of humans so rate higher than them in my book. They are more loyal and trustworthy, at least to me, so sometimes it can be easy to spoil them :)

yeah, i know, that's why i said "i don't hate dogs, but I hate most dog owners" and it's great that your dogs are a member of your family, it's not great however when dog owners tell other people that they're somehow some sort of asshole for not having their family set up the exact same way.

oh yeah I agree, we used to go to dog shows until I couldn't stand being around people that spent ridiculous amounts on dogs and treated like them royalty. It's the same with children, they're not nice to be around when they're that spoilt but the owners/parents are blind to it lol.

I am not a dog person my self and also personally find it annoying when people refer to them as kids, more important than a human etc I also however think they are hypocritical when they say non dog lovers have no heart when they leave their "kid" In the car on a super hot day

maybe "hate" is extreme, but i seriously don't get how the behavior i outlined above doesn't bother people. no one would get away with this if it wasn't about dogs. it's somehow become akin to committing a crime to not like dogs these days.

i guess "crazy pet people" is more accurate. the kind of people i'm talking about are the ones who when asked had to choose who to save from a fire or who they would knock out of the way of a speeding car, an animal or a person, would choose the animal. somehow "poor fluffy" outweighs the life of someone's father, someone's mother, someone's son, someone's daughter, the provider of a household, the support system of a family. The scales there don't equal each other.

The definition of cyincal is "concerned only with one's own interests and typically disregarding accepted or appropriate standards in order to achieve them." that actually sounds EXACTLY like dog owners. they're so concerned with fur ball that they don't care that it's inappropriate and not polite to let your dog hump random people's legs, or run up to runners barking because they're excited, or fill in the blank just because they want fur ball with them all the time.

dog owners inconvenience me more than any other demographic of people. And I've been bitten by 3 dogs because their owners were't paying attention to them
1) when I was little I was walking to my friend's house and they don't have a fenced in yard. I was about 7 and their dog bounded up to me barking. I stopped, held my hand slightly away from my body palm down so that the dog could sniff it. He bit it instead and shook me around like a chew toy. I ran to their front yard and showed them the pool of blood collecting in my hand (you could see bone after it was cleaned) and the mom said "what did you do?" FYI that dog went on to bite another kid in the face. he had to have reconstructive surgery on his face. So that dog owner hurt more than just me by not keeping her dog under control.
2) the second time was when I was 14 and walking my own dog (on a leash) in the park near my house. an unleashed dog came up barking with the owner not in sight. the dog was growling at my dog...

...who was then about 1 year old and about 1/2 the size of the other dog. I stepped in between them and it lunged and bit my leg. i swatted the dog on the nose to get it to release me. I'm still not sure where the owner was.
3) another time in the park (a non-dog park), i was having a picnic with my boyfriend (i was now 18). my dog (who is now no longer with us) was not with me. A small yippy yorkie came over from another group lounging on the grass. the owner did not call the dog back or even notice that it had wandered off. the dog grabbed some of the bread we'd brought for sandwiches and started to pull it away. I grabbed the bread back and the dog bit me on the hand. I grabbed it's collar and brought it over to the group and asked why they weren't controlling their dog and that it had just bit me. she said he would never do that. I showed her the mark and told her what happened. she said "well you shouldn't have tried to take the food back" as if it was my fault.
