Would you stay or go?

I'm not sure of how the law and finances work in divorce so I'm asking.

If your husband is having a multi years affair.

You haven't worked in 15 years. Raised 2 Kids. Husband used to be rich but lost everything so you stay on the marriage for a few years never saying a word about your knowledge of his affair. BUT he has a few new businesses starting up and all the money is tied up in that. You do however have a big new house but there is a mortgage on it. The Husband has just enough to support the family on the basics at this point but he can't even get a new credit card because his businesses are in such legal contortion. Do you wait until the new businesses start Making money so you get better alimony? Or it really doesn't matter?

I’m guessing you want a bigger chunk of alimony in hopes that you’ll be well off enough not to have to work. I get it, nobody actually wants to work if they can avoid it and I’m sure you want to maintain a semblance of the life you have now. But you can’t base your decision making off “possibilities”, nor should you even want to rely on him at all when it comes to finances. I understand you haven’t worked in years, and based on your age you’re well into your 40s, maybe 50s; but it’s never too late to get back on the horse, and in this case you should want to. Find somewhere that will accept your resume, start small if need be and work your way up to a comfortable life. I know it sounds bleak but unfortunately this is the outcome of a homemaker lifestyle not working anymore, and relying on someone else to take care of you.
