Would the dumper/ex-fiancé get affected by this?

Long story short, my ex-fiancé dumped me 6 months ago. I was with him for 4 years and had plans to get married next year and we even have 2 kids together but he suddenly left me for a woman he had just met. He emotionally cheated on me with her until they established a bond and he kicked me and our kids to the curb. I was desparate for him to come back for months until I recently finally snapped out of it. I'm still healing but I'm in the "angry" stage now rather than "depressed and hopeless". I no longer want him back. The thing is, he acts like I will always be his backup plan if things don't work out with the new woman. He feels he can come back to me at any time and takes me for granted so today I finally texted him letting him know I am selling the engagement ring he gave me. Do you think this will give a clear enough message that I'm done with him and am moving on? Do you think this would shock him into realizing I'm not always going to be waiting on him?
