What does it mean if my ex-boyfriend stays in touch with me after a breakup?

so my ex-boyfriend broke up with me like 1 year ago and since then he kept on contacting me every now and then until now he keeps on sending messages to me checking up on me although I never send the message first I only reply to him normally when he message me and the last time he contacted me he said that he always felt comfortable when talking to me and that we have very similar souls etc.. so I wanna know is this normal for guys to keep in touch with their ex? and by the way until now he didn't get in a new relationship

Probably testing you to see if he still potentially can inch his way back into your life for whatever reason being maybe for sex or whatever. If he broke up with you, don’t stoop down to accepting him coming back into your life a year later.

i thought about this actually but he doesn't even live in the same country as me and he didn't show up suddenly after a year actually since we broke up and he has been contacting me

@asker even then , men still will do this. He keeps in contact to see if you have found someone else potentially or if your mind is still on him, however from what has been written he hasn’t given you much reason to be a better romantic partner.
