Even though this trend has been going on for decades it seems people are still choosing the same kind of partners which will lead to divorce

I think what is missing is a genuine sense of commitment, particularly among women. They file 80% of divorces.

Many women will argue that they are driven to divorce by the bad behavior of their husbands. But that goes out the window when we look at the divorce rates among, straight, gay and lesbian couples. Lesbians have the highest divorce rates, by far, and gays have the lowest. That is very telling... the more women involved in a marriage, the higher the likelhood it will end in divorce.

It's definitely part of the problem. But having weak family bonds, poor upbringing, and weak, poorly thought out values are the much bigger problems that birth every other problem that leads to divorce.
