Why do new couples tend to break up only after 8-15 months of dating?

I would say one reason people break up is expectations, either their expectations are not met, the other is not met, or the other person's expectations are unreasonable or too controlling and constrictive. That is also the number one animosity builder in my interpersonal relationships, which is expectations, either I find somebody does not meet mine, or theirs are unreasonable or their rules are valid but they don't respect my right to disagree and think differently from them.
