So basically about 2 years ago I started having feelings about breaking it off with my girlfriend. She had major anxiety issues and would rely heavily on me socially and financially. It was extremely draining as she couldn't hold down a job and all the bills were being pushed on to me. For about a year I'd come home to the house looking like a mess and she'd be in her in her pajamas all day long.
She started sensing that I was unhappy. This started a lot of fights. I was actually unhappy with life, not her. There was a level of disappointment I felt for her.
I decided to wait and support her up until she was ready financially and mentally to handle a breakup. I knew that if I pulled the rug from under her feet she would have been left homeless and distraught.
Fast forward to 3 weeks ago and we have a serious talk and break up. She had gotten a job that she loves and is doing much better for herself. That's when she tells me that she was thinking about breaking it off for a while. When I told her that I was waiting for 2 years for the chance to tell her she gets angry and tells me that I manipulated her into thinking I was still in love with her. I still love her but I was looking out for her well-being in the process after noticing that we just couldn't work out.
In my mind it was more important for her well-being that I waited but she said that she preferred to not be lied to.
To put it in perspective, she only had about $60 in her bank account and owed about $3000 on her credit card about 1 month ago. And that's after I gave her about $1000 dollars to get her car fixed.
