What does it mean when a girl talks about her ex boyfriend?

I've been spending time with this girl, and she keeps talking about her ex boyfriend. We have a lot of fun talking to each other, and she at least seems to really enjoy my company. Every once in a while she will throw in something about her ex boyfriend.

Example:

I talked about how I interned in Los Angeles during the summer, and her ex boyfriend, whom she broke up with two years ago, lived there.

I said that I own a house and rent rooms to people, and she talked about how her ex has a huge house in Los Angeles.

I talked about how I have my own company and I'm starting up in the music industry, and her ex boyfriend rents out his house for people to record movies or TV shows in. She said that a reality show was shot in it at one time.

She's here in Minnesota, so there's no chance of rekindling that relationship until she finishes college up here and if she would decide to move to Los Angeles again. She also broke up with him a couple years ago, and it seems like he was the last guy she dated, at least in length.

So, why would a woman bring up her ex boyfriend?

Because she is still in love with him. Dude. Move on. You can do waaay better if you have all that going for you, the next time she brings him up Id be put her on the spot and say something direct--pull no punches and just be real--- like "hey you're always talking about him. you still so f*ckin fixated on him, why doesn't your pathetic living-in-the-past *ss give him a call and stop wasting my time. I gotta go. I'm going to go find someone who appreciates me and who I don't feel like I'm always in constant competition with some ex from YEARS ago who ISNT with you. I AM. Or at least I was tell you pullled this sh*t. Let THIS be a learning experience. He's your ex for a reason. Now I am too. Late!" and then just get up and walk away. Stay strong throughout and don't turn back while she starts to try and apologize. She will only apologize because she is gonna realize that she's pathetic and gonna be alone YET AGAIN. Walk it like you talk it, and swagger like you swingin a bat between the legs, and NEVER let a girl put you second bro. You give her a few days to THINK on that--ignore her calls and texts for a few days and then decide if you wanna stick around for purely sexual none-emotional relationship, then you can chill with her, because the fact is you already know she doesn't like you like she LOVES him, and she never will.

It could mean nothing. Maybe she's nervous and just saying whatever comes to mind. Maybe she spent a lot of time with that person so most of the stories she has to tell involve spending time with him. I catch myself doing it a lot and try to do it less. I don't have feelings for my ex boyfriends, I just spent a lot of time with them so it's hard to not talk about them. If you think about it, the normal course of a conversation is you saying something about yourself and the other person asking you questions or trying to relate. She's just trying to show she relates, but it just happens to be through her experiences with her ex.

I've heard people say it means they still think about their ex a lot and thus still have feelings for them. I'm sure that's true in some cases but definitely not in mine. It probably just depends on the situation.

I noticed that it cooled down a lot once my current boyfriend and I spent more time together and started making our own memories.

She's probably still just trying to get over him. I had an ex who was my best friend and for about two years of my life, we shared everything together. Now when I go out with someone, if I ever have to talk about that portion of my life, it's natural that he would come up. But I usually switch it to "my friend" instead of "my ex" cause I don't want guys to think I'm not over him.
