I wanted to break up with my girlfriend but her father died now , what to do?

So I want to break up with my girlfriend badly ( because we are not compatible, I don't love her anymore)

But her father who was ill died few days ago and she is very depressed now. I don't know what should I do? I want be free but in this situation I shouldn't break up with her because she would be only more depressed. Right?

How long should I wait with it?

That is a seriously tough situation I would hate to be in the best thing I can say is put yourself in her shoes and think about what you would want her to do. The loss of a parent at a fairly young age is hard to deal with and chances are she will be grieving for a long time so whether you do it now or later you will look like a jerk either way but just so you don't look like a complete jerk I would wait a little while. not too long but long enough so that its not two bad things happening to her at once. for now just be supportive of her and comfort her. if you are as uncompatible as you say you are then she is bound to see that at some point too, so if you are good to her now and help her through this hopefully she will appreciate that and understand why you are breaking up with her and not resent you for it.

Well honestly the best thing to do is to put it off for a while. But loosing a parent is truly something hard especially if you loved them and you need support and understanding. just wait.

As side advice, since most seem to say stick it out... Pull back slowly. Contact a little less, and let the family take over for comforting. Your growing absence will soften the final blow, because it'll seem like you're not there enough anyways.

I am going through my father's death. 2mths after he dies she wants space. No support my mom is already dead. I'm 30 not that it matters. My opinion no good time. If you can't support f off! Don't wait you are a jerk for leaving no matter how or when. The pain is no less either way. Only more pain! If you cared about the person and knew this before you are an ass for staying as long as you did. Don't drag her through the mud! Th only drawback is her killing herself.
