Nope. I was raised around animals. If he doesn't want them around, well then why'd he stick with me long enough for the relationship to progress to one of us moving in with the other?
I have horses, dogs, and cats at the moment, and if he thinks for one moment that if I move in with him my cat and dog aren't coming with, well then he's just all messed up in the head. The horse stays in the barn, obviously.
Thankfully my boyfriend (future husband, fingers crossed) loves animals. He wants to have a dog. I'm trying to talk him into a cat and maybe a horse, too, but thus far he's not budging. I DID talk him into a turtle pond though :) My family just has a habit of adopting creatures that wander into our yard. He'll just come home from work one day to find out that I "found" a cat or a snake or something and we'll keep it.
I digress. Tell your friend that the dog stays and the boy goes. He shouldn't have dated her for so long if he had something against her pet.

NOOOOOOOO, I would never give up dogs for anyone. I couldn't live without their love and schinanigans. Plus if your friend gives her dog up and she and her boyfriend break up then she will regret it incrediably, when the love subsides you start to think why did I do this and that for that jerk. My uncle's friend and girlfriend had a big dog that was a little aggresive and he didn't like kids so they put him to sleep when the girlfriend got pregnant, a year or so later they split up and she moved out with the kid, I'm pretty sure my uncle's friend still regrets putting a healthy dog to sleep that also was his best friend. So I think you shoud do what you can from keeping your friend from doing something she will regret
If I were her, I would talk to my boyfriend about it. Why should she give in to him when he could try to live with her and her dog because he loves her?
It would be horrible for me to give up on a pet I've had for a long time. I'd say: she should discuss it with her boyfriend and hope he'll understand that it's a pet she loves and she can't get rid of just like that and hope that he'll "give in" and let the dog stay.
LOL You mean a Yorkshire terrier ... Yorkie... Okay if that dude is going to freak out with a yorkie that guy is a punk! I would use another 'P' word but I'll behave. Those dogs (Yorkie) are very expensive. Plus it's 9 years old?!?! It must just lie there and sleep all day. That's old in dog years. That's a 63 year old... It might live another 6 years MAX. So he would just have to be patient. If I was her, just for being a punk, I would kick his ass to the curb. Never mind the doggy... But in this case I would pick the Yorkie. It's sound like the doggy has been around longer.
My childhood dream job was a dolphin trainer, took my chances and failed. Lets say I would have had to choose between the girl of my dreams and a job of my dreams, I would choose the girl any given day. That's just me.
I would make sure my animal friend would have a safe home.

I have a friend that has a cat that likes to torment me. I would never ask her to get rid of her cat. That's her baby. I would just give the animal a wide birth. Does this guy like any other animals. I can understand the fear of a childhoid trauma but he is a grown man. Time to move on. I would never ask a guy to get rid of an animal they have had since childhood. You would never be able to find a home for that animal especially after a 12 year bond has been established. This dude sounds like a control freak.
I could understand if he was SEVERELY allergic then I would consider it. Or if it was a ferocious and huge dog we were talking about. But I am severly allergic to almost every animal except little dogs. My friend has a pomeranian and I was so afraid of it the first time going to her place, but after a while I realized I was not allergic and the dog was super sweet.
Maybe your friends boyfriend will come to the same realization. I think he should at least give it a chance before he is so stubborn about it and he should know that the dog has been in her life for way longer and she's grown an attachment to it. If he thinks that's stupid, then he has no consideration!Depends. If the pet attacked em? Maybe. If they are allergic to them? Maybe. But if they just don't like em? Tough sh*t.
I would never even entertain the idea. You say she's attached so she's one of those people who considers the dog to be a part of the family (as am I); you can't just kick out one of your family members! Who's been dependent on you and loved you for 9 years...if her boyfriend really cared for her, he would deal with it and get some therapy or something to get over his fear of dogs.
I wouldn't even date someone who doesn't like animals
pets are family I have two cats I don't think I would even date someone that dosnt like them...
Nope. My Enchilada IS mans best friend. Always, always happy to see me, hang around with me, go wherever I want to go & barks at anybody that rings the doorbell.
No way! :((((
I wouldn't be able to, I'd view someone who is that unable to be around animals (especially my pets) incompatible. No not happening if they're making me get rid of my pet that I've had since childhood it seems like he can get me to rid of anything.
Well if its like a fish or a hamster or something yeah but not a dog.
I would never get rid of my pets for a bf! Ever! I wouldn't even begin to date someone that doesn't like pets
Never. My pets are my family and they are not disposable for any reason. I never had a violent or smelly pet but I also truly cared for them and loved them from the time they were born.
Hell no tell him to grow a pair. The dog was there first.
My puppy will be with me for her entire life... and then another...

No way! My cat is a huge part of my life!
