If a guy asks you to go hiking and lunch?

I have a guy friend (more like acquaintance) that I've hung out with a few times before, but only in big group settings. He's never texted me in the month I've known him, but suddenly a few days ago he asked if I'd like to go hiking and get lunch at a farmer's market downtown this weekend. Unfortunately I was busy this weekend and asked to reschedule (hope he doesn't think I'm blowing him off).. now I'm wondering if he was asking me out on a date?

Yes he was building up the guts to ask you out for a month. he might think your blowing him off, but he asked so you can ask what he had in mind for your raincheck date. its a sneeky way of letting him know you are interested, and ask if he was meaning a date date. good luck hon

I wouldn't call it a "date" but it sounds like he was trying to invite you to join him in an activity that will give him the opportunity to get to know you better.
