When a guy puts his hand around your shoulder vs. waist.. Is there a dif?

I really like this guy and we've been friends for a while. At first he would put his arm around my shoulder when he hugs me goodbye and what not. But now if we're taking pictures together/ he's guiding me through the crowds/ giving hugs/ etc. he would put his arm around my waist and not my shoulders anymore. Is there a difference when a guy puts his arm around your shoulder than when he puts it around your waist?

If he's doing by putting hand around waist that means he more open to u maybe he feels now more carefree tp express himself to u as it is a big dral for us guys to just put hand around waist... Consider it an upgrade... Maybe he likes you
