Why my boss was over-protective?

I belong to an eastern. By nature I am a simple person. And it's my first job. I am new to a city I work in. That day I went out my office during lunch hours and got an hour late. My intentions were to explore a new place. However on my way, my boss called me and angrily told me to come to his office the moment I reach. I got scared of getting fired. Once I reached, he was not angry. He rather spoke very softly: "You are a girl. It's not good for you to roam around alone randomly. The city isn't sometimes safe. In case something happens to you, I'd be responsible for it. Next time do ask before going." I was surprised to why he was getting so caring/over protective when I am nobody to him. I am not a child and 28 years old.

I think he is trying to impress you.. Showing tht he cares for you.. And I think girls find it attractive.. This might be a chance.. Or may b he really feels u are his responsibility.. But again being 28 yr old girl knows. What he has to do and what not..
