Who should reach out after the first date?

So, you've gone on a date with this wonderful girl or guy, and the date itself was great, but it's been a few days of phone silence... Who should make the 'second' move? The guy? The girl? Whoever made the first move?

If I had a good time and I want to see her again, I say to hell with any rules or social conventions about who is "supposed to" make the next call. I want to see her so I take charge and I make the call. (And I don't care if this violates the rules in "Dating For Idiots" or "A Boy's First Book Of Dating.")

I always want to initiate but the reasons I don't are
1) She might think I'm too needy
2) She might be uninterested and that's the reason why she hasn't contacted me
